Just finished reading the latest SM battles book - Fall of Damnos - Ultramarines vs Necrons

I'm not that up on necrons units+ fluff but one unit I thought was new were static pylon-scale necron artillery pieces called Gauss-Obliterators.

Sounds like a new unit to me. Did it suggest whether they were more for targeting troops, tanks or war engines or what sort of effects they had?

Very interested in any/all descriptions of what they looked like, how big they were, what kind of carnage they put out, how they were defeated, etc. Spill the beans, man!!

New units were also referenced in the 5th ed rulebook fluff section.

Also, bloody great skeleton monster. Stupid idea.

SPOILER

Gauss-Obliterators - are described as massive gauss weapons mounted and to a similar scale as pylons. They are all concentrated (with the pylons) at a long distance from the target (out of earthshaker range). They are being used in siege but don't appear to be capable of destroying heavy fortifications as its not until later that the walls are breached, they appear to do heavy damage to 'soft' buildings+garrison inside.
They are protected by a necron Lord - the Voidbringer who protects them with a cloak of darkness - when he is killed by a combination of Tigurius+the treachery of another Necron Lord the SM destroy them with meltabombs.

No other new units - just waves of necron warriors+immortals. scarab swarms, destroyers, monoliths, wraiths + flayed ones.

Thanks for the info.... Probably leave out the ignore cover and up the BP. IC seems to be for things like Demolisher Cannons which actually are supposed to level buildings.

Not in the Necron army. Obelisks, Monoliths, Pylons, Warbarques, Aeonic Orbs, Abattoirs, Tomb Spyders, Wraiths, but no Obliterators. We could always tweak the name to Gauss Obituators I suppose. ;)

Calling something a Gauss-Obliterator would be different to calling something an Obliterator. :)
