Hi everyone,

playing epic for about two years now, I'm about to start a Necron army. So we did a testgame yesterday (proxing the whole army) to see if they are fun to play- and it we had a lot of fun! All the teleporter and portals bring some new flavour in the game, thank You for all the working creating this list!
Though some questions came up, which we could not answer ourselves, I hope You can help us young tomb spiders.

1. How many dice do you roll to see if a teleporting WE gets blastmarker?
 - 1 per WE
 - 1 per DC

2. Is a portal of a broken unit still operational?

3. Is it intentional that Necrons are the only army cannot combine a big WE (Orb or Abbatoir) and a Supreme Commander in a normal 3000 point game? If yes, why?

Cheers

3) Imperial Guard and Space Marine can't either (from the top of my head).

Marines have no problems on that front (must be the only one, haha).

Neither can Eldar, the Black Legion, nor the Lost and the Damned...

Seems Orks are the only official army that can, and Tyranids the only other one.

Regards 1, my initial assumption is 1 die per WE, like a Dangerous Terrain Test. That may be incorrect, but is one of those vaguenesses that crop up when something weird (like teleporting WE's) is added.

Regards 2, a Broken unit with Portal still functions. All Special Abilities function unless explicitly stated otherwise.

Regards 3, I believe it is an intentional choice. I am not sure what Erik means there. Space Marines can field a Supreme Commander and a Warlord. As can Imperial Guard. Necron seem to be intentionally limited. It had something to do with the variable Strategy Rating they have/had (Is that dead yet, or not?). You either got the big WE at Strategy Rating 1, or the Supreme Commander and Strategy Rating 3.

Edit: I believe the 'combine' in the initial post refers to the army as a whole, not a singular unit/formation.

1) 1 Dice per DC. That's how Corey has mentioned in the past it's intended to be done.

2) Yes, broken portals still work.

3) Yes, it's a deliberate balancing mechanism.

welcome, always nice to see a new necron player
don't know what rules your using but if you have a copy of raiders then you might want to check out a few changes which are in the thread at the top of the necron page. also we are in the process of adding some new changes which can be found in the thread below this one. if you don't feel like reading all 10 pages or whatever moscovian gives a nice summary on one of the last pages.

thanks for the replies, the answers and the welcome.

in question 3 combine was not the best term, of course i meant combine in an army, not in a unit or formation.

i used the rules in raiders and applied the approved changes and some suggested in the thread (the changed monolith formation for example).

How did you like the revised Monolith formation?

hm, i think the 1 Mono-formation has a couple of issues that violate fluff and game mechanics, so the new 3unit-formations are definetly a big improvement.
balancewise i cannot really jugde so far, since i lack the experience playing necrons to put them in the best use.
listwise i dislike the discussed option of listing up 3 different formations (monos only, oblisks only, combination) for only 2 different units (mono, obelisk). it is not very elegant i think. i'd prefer one single list entry (like the tank formation in the black legion list, that can include LR and preds) or at max 2 different formations listed.
