In light of a lack of an official decision from the Army Champ, I am taking his comments and moving things forward on the Necron list.

The Raiders version of the list has been out for a year now and the review is due.  Corey has stated the following changes should take place:

C'tan criticals: change to MW4+ in a 5cm radius.
Strategy Rating: change from a variable SR 3/1 to a SR 2.
Deceiver: change the BP from BP 6 to BP 4.

Playtesting Month
Pylon issue:  No change.  There are people who think these are paper tigers and other who think they are hideously unbalanced.  The Army champ is part of the former.  The latter group seems fixed in their opinions.  My request is this: each person who has a Necron army playtest the army twice in the next 4 weeks.  Please post either batreps or at least some highlights with pictures if possible.  You don't need to type 30 pages, just touch on the points you want to make.

If you think the Necron Pylon is a paper tiger, try testing your theory by bringing Space Marines.  This is THE argument against the unit.  Load up the Thunderhawks and have the Necrons have at least two Pylons.  Let's make a point, one way or the other.  Give the champ some ammo for decision making.

Monolith formation changes:  No change.  Once again the champ is not convinced, so go break it.  Popcorn the army with Monoliths and post the batrep (or a portion of the batrep). Pictures HELP!  They help illustrate the situation better.

So four weeks of playtest and batreps, then we'll see where things go.

Charmingly put, but unessesary.

If you think the Necron Pylon is a paper tiger, try testing your theory by bringing Space Marines.  This is THE argument against the unit.
And that's the problem.

This argument translates into "I can't play the way I want to, so I want you to change the rules so I can win with my chosen list."

Which is why they always have been, and alway will be dismissed out of hand.  If the list doesn't work against and army, don't use it.  It's really not a complicated idea.  If you're stuck with a not so great list against an opponent... well, that's what seperates the good players.  People who can improvise and adapt.  Squeeze the most good out of what they have.

If you want a battle report to be compelling, then you need to demostrate where you fought well, and adjusted your tactics in the face of the enemy.  I've seen too many reports where people have their force split all over the place.  Once I see those I know it's a forgone conclusion, and I'm not likely to see useful info come out of that report.

The same applies to the dreaded "popcorn" armies.

They are crap, you can beat them with even a half decent army set up.  if you want to prove to me that I'm wrong, and that every single fight I had ever won against one was a fluke, you should have a solid army, deployed properly.

Anything else just doesn't mean anything.  Sorry. :O

It's a step in the right direction, but I can't understand your opposition to the monolith formation changes.

Likewise I don't think the list will ever achieve universal acceptance (and the netERC stamp of approval) without toning down the Pylon. Don't get me wrong, I agree it's mostly a paper tiger, but it really does screw over marines.

Imagine an army came out with a special rule which said "this army gets an automatic titan killer overwatch against all teleporters". Necron players would rightly feel that this would completely ruin their playstyle, and would be within their rights to request the rule was rethought even if it was appropriately costed.

Would TK(1) on the Pylon's AA really be so bad?

corey, i think we're all in agreement that the pylon is a paper tiger. so don't expect anyone to write differently. it will be the SM players out there. that being said, like zombocom wrote, is TK1 really that bad? if necron players don't mind AND we don't have to hear the SM player b!th!ng about it then it's a win/win for all.
as for the deciever getting a 4BP, is that necessary now. the reason that it was too powerful imo is that you got the 6BP and SR3. now that he has been significantly downgraded i think the 6BP is fine. on that note i also think all the people who thought the abbatoir was not powerful enough might find it more in line w/ it's point cost now.
how about the wraith? would the changes listed earlier be ok? since no one uses them as they are we should throw them in as well.

Ok, let me be perfectly clear here.

I am not Opposed to changes to either the Monolith formations, or the Wraith.

All I'm saying is, take the changes in such a way that if there's a serious change in how the army plays that creates a problem, it becomes VERY easy to pinpoint which specific change caused the issue.

Do I think that changing the SR will be such a titanic shift that nothing else will be needed?  No, I don't think so, but then I haven't played them with a fixed SR of 2 yet, so I can't say with any data to back up my assertations.

A few good reports should tell the tale, and then we can move on to the unit changes.  Many changes all at once, only lead to chaos.  Humor me. :)

Fair enough, that's understandable.
