just starting to put together a necron army. i have no experience w/ it other then getting beat by them once and what i've read here. so take this for what it's worth.
in reading some of the other posts here and on the battle reports, i notice that one of the gripes w/ this list is that no one would play the abattoir or aeonic orb in a tournament. i agree, you need the supreme commander in a tourney.
that being said couldn't the abattoir and aeonic orb be given the sc for an extra 50 points, just like the warbarque? that would be 800 pts for that and 200 left over for a pylon. i'm sure that this was probably discussed while making the armybut maybe should be looked at again. right now you pretty much have 2 options deciever/3 pylons or deciever/ 2 pylons/ warbarque.
also in reading the stories in the raiders book (very good btw) it seems as though the aeonic orb at least is so valuable/rare that the supreme commander would be there w/it at all times.
anyway just a thought.

I think it's more a reflection of the rarity of the Abattoir or Orb that it will only really make an appearance in higher point value games; it makes for "tough choices" for the Necron player... and some players have taken to designing their armies for play without a supreme commander and adjusting their tactics accordingly.

Also, not all tournaments are 3000 points, so there's not always that limitation; in a 4000 point tournament, you could get a Harvester Engine and a Supreme quite nicely.

i agree w/ everything you just said, but it seems to be a point of concern w/ some people. most of my time is spent playing casual games (obviously) so i personally do not mind it the way it is. i still think it would cause some tough choices, since you could only take orb/abattoir and pylon w/ no c'tan, warbarque, and extra pylon
and again it fits in w/ the fluff

It's a deliberate restriction. Harvesters are very powerful, and being able to take them at SR3 with a SC reroll could be overpowered at 3000 points. It's a nice limitation. I tend to alternate between a Harvester and a SC, as they both have their uses.

I definately don't think there should be an option to have both in 3000 points.
