So, I just got back from Games Day in Baltimore, where I played in the Epic Tournament.

I'd like to start off by saying that Moscovian's Dark Eldar army was awe inspiring, and beautiful in it's horror.

I entered with my Necrons (as you might well imagine), flexing the latest version for the first time.

My first game was against the Demiurg list.  This wasn't a fight, it was a massacre.  I have never, in all my time playing any game, suffered such a titanic defeat.

over 80% of my armor saves failed.  I lost about half my army on the first turn, most of that in the first two activations.

I started with everything off the board, and let my opponent set up first.  Afterwards, I gave him a little advice that let him make his Scout picket more effective.

One shot from his Colosus devestated one of my Monolith formations.  3 Obelisks and 2 Monoliths vanished in a single volley, leaving a lone Monolith that was destroyed next turn.

His heavy weapon infantry destroyed the Nightbringer with a crit, that happened to be JUST large enough to almost wipe out my Flayed ones, but 1cm shy of hitting any of his units. Surviving Flayed ones fled to safety.

The rest of it's too painful to relate, but the game ended with me losing 5-1 (I have NO units on the board by the end of turn 3, and he owned every objective and the entire table.

My second game went a bit better.

Agreed,

Corey graciously reminded me about my set up, as we have played each other before and the results were decidely in his favor, mainly because I did not fully understand the necron list.

Neither one of us could have anticipated nearly every crucial die roll and armor save going against him. After turn one, in a game with no time limits we probably would have started over from the first activation roll...

For the record I have never won a game, or either games from Gamesday '08 with victories that were so lopsided. ?Regardless, it was good seeing you again in person Corey, thanks for the excellent sportsmanship.

Certainly this is further evidence that the Necron list is much weaker (in a good way) than earlier versions.  Corey, what were your feelings on the changes to the list as they relate to the tournament games?

It was good to play with you guys again. :)

Well, I only got in one game with some average dice rolls, but the army performed pretty much to my expectations.

One game, does not a thourogh test make of course, but I was fairly satisfied over all.

Too bad you won't be able to come up for the NEAT tournament.  The gas prices are killing our long-range travellers.

Corey, what are you using as your Nightbringer? Looks pretty damn nice.

BTW Corey's game sounds like almost every game I play with Marines. :-)

He's a cutom built model.  I started with a Skeleton from Warhammer Fantasy.  Fused a Scythe on his arm, and mounted the torso to a stand I designed to make the "cloak" billow out.

The Cloak is nothing but green stuff.

I mixed it up, rolled it out to be REALLY thin, and then drapped it around the figure like cloth.  Setting things up so it dried in the right position was a pain, but the effect was worth it. :)

Yeah, the Nightbringer was one of the most awesome models there that day. Sounds silly, but the really cool thing about your army was that it really did look just like an Epic-scale Necron army...
