I've put up two battle reports involving the "Raiders" Necron lists.  Links can be found below:

vs. Biel-Tan

vs. Steel Legion

Feel free to post comments here or there!

very nice, thanks!

so, what do you think of the Wraith formations?

Monolith problem sufficiently resolved?

What would you suggest as a solution to make Spyders more appealing?

I've played with the wraith formations a few times, and they seem fine enough, though I do miss having them as phalanx upgrades. Then again, making phalanxes weaker is no bad thing.

Monoliths are much better now. Perhaps stil not perfect, as I've yet to attempt a popcorn list under the current version, but in a ballanced list they're much more reasonable currently. I may attempt to proxy a min-maxed list to see if they are still breakable (I suspect they may still be).

Spyders are certainly not worth it at all at the moment. Their combat abilities, fearless and mobile cover are not enough to make up for making the formation vulnerable to AT fire, and at 75 points they are much too expensive.

CC4+ as a possible fix? Or a drop to 50 points.

I forgot to mention (thanks, Zombocom)... I played the Wraith formation (six strong) on Saturday as well.  It slaughtered one formation of Guardians, then died horribly against some Warp Spiders.  They're biggest drawback is the lack of FF, but their CC abilities offset this vulnerability nicely.

I'd say you did a good job on designing the formation, but I do want to try them out more.

very nice, thanks!

My pleasure!

so, what do you think of the Wraith formations?

My opponent really liked the formation, and I think it's a nice addition to the list.

Our one question is why it's called a "Force Recon" formation, when it doesn't have scout or any way of getting to battle except through Portals (or normal deployment)?

Additionally, could I suggest changing the title in the army list from "Necron Support Formation" to "Necron Cohorts" or something similar? ?"Support Formation" just doesn't sound cool enough for Necrons. ?*laugh*

Monolith problem sufficiently resolved?
Well, they certainly aren't scary on their own anymore! *laugh* ?And having more than one in a formation is nice too. ?I'm tempted to see them at +3EA instead of +2... they *should* be a bit scary on their own.

What would you suggest as a solution to make Spyders more appealing?
Honestly, make them 50 points each.

Their listed abilities might certainly be worth 75 points "on paper", but that doesn't account for the vulnerability they add to any infantry formation they're attached to. ?A Phalanx being shot at by a Russ Company can ignore the 10 Lascannon shots... put a Tomb Spyder or two in there, and all those shots target the Spyders, most likely taking them out.

I've taken them rarely, and my primary Necron opponent never takes them, strictly because of vulnerability issues.

All-in-all through, the list has made excellent progress, thanks for all your efforts Corey!

I call them that because Wraiths are supposed to be a recon element for the Necron in the Fluff. :)

It's funny, I was playing Dawn of War:  Soulstorm, and I was astonished by what they had done with Scarabs and Immortals in there.

Scarabs are Anti Air units, and cannot attack any ground targets.  They made Immortals Anti Air as well.

It was funny watching a massive swarm of Scarabs decend like a plague of locusts on fighters...

Anyway, I'm cool with dropping the points on the Spyder to 50.  Frankly I had the price higher because I knew there would be an outry if I had it around 50 with it's abilities.

Pricing something higher, people will actually pay more attention to see if it's worth the high cost, rather than just giving an unthinking reaction of "It's too cheap!"  :)

So, that would be a "speculatorum" formation, if going with the Roman/Latin naming conventions... and I'm still gonna pimp "cohort" as the name for Necron support formations!  *laugh*

Is there a Necron Pylon in Soulstorm?

In its own formation, a Tomb Spyder would be worth more than 50 points... but mixed with infantry, not so much...

Cohort is workable too.

Is there a Necron Pylon in Soulstorm?

sadly no.  I would have loved to see it!  Honestly, there isn't any good reason they couldn't have made them.

Oh, and on a side note, it's a great place to get ideas for Necron buildings for scenery.

Cohort is in the Dark Eldar list, which is why it probably keeps bubbling up in Chroma. :p

Are we really going to change the price on the Spyder to 50?  I need to know this really soon.

"Maniple", "Auxilia"... something other than "Support Formation"... it's got no *zazz*!

They are walking, robotic undead!  How much zazz can they have?  The only 'zazz' in the Necron army is the sound of their victims being ripped apart molecule by molecule.

It's up to Corey.  If he can make a decision by the 11th then it'll go in - otherwise you'll have to suffer. :p

OOOH!

I'll go with Maniple!

And yeah a price adjustment to 50 on the Spyder.

Probably still won't see them often at that price.

You guys are killing me.  Last minute price changes and Maniple?!  It sounds like Man-Nipple.

Yes, I am fielding my Man Nipples now.  That'll scare anyone off the board.

actually, I think it's supposed to be Mantiple.

100 legionaires to a Century, 4 Centuries to a Mantiple, 4 Mantiples to a Cohort, 4 Cohorts to a Legion. :)  Or maybe it was 10

But that is a good name.

You don't have to change it in there if you don't want to :)
