My own personal view though: base a list on the concept of an army - certainly not the 40K rules, not even the specifics of a unit's weaponry.

Just to add to my posts on the living metal thread, I had a win, a loss and a draw to keep my 50% record with the necrons. When you go big for a massive engagement and heavy with the monoliths you need to be able to catch your opponents out of bunkers and before they move away. Failure to rally off board broken formations is still the biggest problem my style of army has.

Just seen your post Rug, as we discussed afterwards, you had placed yourself in a position where you couldn't shoot and was just waiting on me. I was able to out wait you behind the terraine and pounce on Warhounds, Hydras and the Reg HQ as they came out. Sorry it wasn't more interesting, but teleporting everything infront of your overwatching Shadowswords, Warhounds, Hydras, Artillery Company all intermingle castled in one corner with six Commissars and the Reg HQ ready to counter charge didn't seem to be the best of ideas. Hopefully Mike will post the photo he took of your set up when he has time.

I played Mike's Necrons but it probably doesn't count because I had a silly list, little sleep, and a light dusting of poor dice during my one chance at getting on the offensive (a failed 2+ init roll). Also I'm crap at this game. :-p

Is the Monolith Phalanx generally considered the optimal size in EUK games? (3 monos, no obelisks). I've been using 2+2 mono/obs, which is the same price and has been working for me. It has a few advantages, higher model count for suppression and breaking being the main one as well as more shots at longer range. But as Monoliths are mostly fine with breaking, and you're not bringing them for shooting anyway, the Phalanx might be better at performing the main mission?

Only 2 tournaments in I think it's a little too early to tell. Players and opponents still working out how to play with and against the list.

We have a restricted choice with Monoliths either 1 Mon & 2 Obs for 200pts or 3 Mon for 275pts. Apart from the fact that I really like to use the double portal engage out of one return to the void through another it helps protect my formations and allows them to redeploy later on.

Also I've been playing with an uber Infantry Phalanx so have needed the redundancy to get them on to the table in the best possible positions.

Aah, so 2+2 simply isn't allowed in EUK, that explains the high Monolith count. I don't think removing 2+2 as an option is on the table for the NetEA Raiders list. However, I'm thinking of removing it from the Tomb World list, as that one doesn't have access to Phalanxes anyway. Early days for that list yet though.
