well, it would cap them at once a turn if they had to use an action to regen.

It does slow down the grinding advance of the army though.

But, as I said, its something to test out to see the actual effect of.

I'd like to see how that works out myself.

Part of the cost of the formations considered the free regen at end of turn.  If this seems too much, I might be able to justify shaving some points off the formations with the Necron ability.

Or, I could get lucky and it just works out perfectly with just the adjustment :)

Corey, there are a few things being discussed.  With a possible Necron game coming up, any chance you could list here what you think we should be playtesting?

Regeneration on Marshalling Only.
Variable Strategy Rating.
Initiative Changes (if so which ones?).

I'd be happy to play all three changes to be honest.

play with these changes:
1.) ?Necron Strategy Rating: 1 (Supreme Commander unit makes Strategy rating 3).
2.) ?Initiative 2+ on Phalanx, Obelisk, Monolith, and Pylons
3.) ?Pylons cannot claim Objectives.
4.) ?Regeneration on Marshalling (or Hold Action) Only

I have to say, I'm REALLY not particular to changing the Initiative on the Phalanx. ?Initiative is really a matter of discipline, not speed (I think it's a mis-named stat personally), and you just do NOT get more disciplined than Necron Warriors.

If you don't want the Phalanx initiative change then I won't playtest it.  You are right that baby steps are usually better since it allows you to see the effect of those smaller changes.

So I'll try it with all the changes mentioned above sans the Phalanx initiative move to 2.

What I like, isn't nessarily what's the best for the list. :)
