Having been inspired by F40k i am going to begin an Iron Warrior army
Well, that's flattery for you!
Good luck with this army - IW armies are great to paint because they're so straight forward. Plus I think that IW are the best of the Traitor Legions, 'cause if it came to a battle to find the best Traitor Legion, they'd sit back, let the others fight it out for a while - then shell the few survivors from a safe distance...
If it's painting advice you need, then as far as Iron Warriors are concerned it's very straight forward: dry brush Tin Bits, then Boltgun Metal, then this mixed with Mithril Silver. Using this method it should be very quick to paint the bulk of the army.
For the important chevron motif I work up from Blazing Orange until I'm using a mix of Golden Yellow & Skull White. Then paint black lines, like the sides of a triangle, to get the stripes.
As far as force composition, I would emphasise Artillery and Armour for that essential Iron Warriors fluff-slave feel
there was a list posted on here a few months ago, I can't remember who was working on it, but it would make a good basis for this...
