Pictures will come later in the week. The hype is true - the Foundation paints cover exceedingly well, better than any I have seen before. And this Otter has quite apaint-collecting neurosis. There were 2 disappointments (Khemri brown and Gretchin green), but out of 18 paints, that's pretty good. And those 2 colors seem to closely parallel otherwise available colors, Bestial brown and camo green. I will also later engage in one of my passions, paint chip comparison, in order to offer equivalencies from other lines. |

Note that the foundation range are made by Coat'de'Arms, the original supplier of GW paints 10 years ago, before the screw-top lowest-bidder supplier surplanted them. |

Khemri is one of my favourite colours in the range, true it is halfway between Graveyard Earth and Kommando Khaki, but it saved my life when painting the stores Dark Angels. One coat of Khemri instead of 4-5 coats of Graveyard, followed by a wash of Graveyard and then normal highlighting. SWEET sweet colour. It's Calthan that is similar to Bestial, but even then it's more yellow. |

So is this new paint made so that it is easier to undercoat black, then do the Kevin Dallimore?s 3 color technique, or am I completely missing the point? See I just finished a bunch of Salamanders, doing the base coat, then the wash, then the drybrush, then the wash etc and I think I want to switch to a faster, easier and more "rewarding" style, maybe these new paints would be more appropriate with this technique...? |

I just wacked out a huge number of lord of the rings goblins by dry brushing up scorched brown / calthan. undercoating with the foundation paints to areas, then highlighting then a brown ink wash. Quick and easy. Also they mix well. Solar Macharius + Calthan is perfect for Slayer beards which always used to be a pain. I've had them for over 2 months now, an I'm really getting used to using them. They are a nice addition. |

I found it interesting that there is a manufacture date on the bottom of the bottles. Most of mine were made in late January and early February. So why not sell the paints earlier? One may never know. |

Was just wondering if anybody has watered any of the colours down at all?. I keep hearing differing reports about the foundation paints, most seem to be positive. The reason I asked about watering down, was that a couple of people said that whatever colour you use it turns grey if water is added. I know that goes against the reasoning behind a foundation set anyway, but was interested none the less. I am quite tempted by these paints, but are they worth getting or not?. |

I discovered that by adding a little bit of water, the pigment tends to float to the surface, causing a darkening (but not graying) effect. So, results are best without water. These paints are definately on my recommended list. You should get at least one or two bottles, just to experiment with. |

When I spoke to a guy at GW, he said that he wasn't planning on paintinganything till he gets these as they were just easier to use. I told him I'd probably not bother as I hae too much existing paint. He was trying his sales pitch I guess, saying that I wouldn't need them any more. Guess I'm ranting and not really adding anything. I'd pobably get one or two such as for red and yellow, but I hate that you can't get them seperately until after a lot of people have been suckered into buying the box set which they'll probably not use half. |

You can't buy them individually? I didn't know that. In that case, it'll be a long time before I buy any. |

The most pigment-heavy range of paints I have found are by Rackham. If you do not water them down they will leave a chalky-almost layer on the model. I have the starter set and was able to one-coat a Space Marine in a light blue colour but left the model, as I said, chalky. Check them out if you get a chance, cheaper than GW and more in the pot. I have also been using vallejo off-white to go over black before applying lighter colours. D |
