Some of you may have noticed references by me concerning 'Secret Project M'. On Friday I will reveal a painted prototype. Since I have self-esteem issues, I thought it would be fun for guesses concering what the 'M' stands for. Hints. It's Epic, it's Imperial Guard. On a conversion scale of 1 to 5, where 1) Something is filed off 2) A piece of plasticard is glued on 3) A sabre-type conversion 4) A krieg super-heavy creation 5) A Warmaster-nice level creation it's probably a 3.5. It will be painted according to L-4 tastes. |

Hmmm, you have me intrigued. I wish I could think of something that the M might stand for. |

I call it a prototype because my assembly and painting have shown design and sculpting problems. |

I have kept the project hidden from Consectari so as to not ruin his fun. We correspond some on our various little projects. |

I'm still painting. My skills have degraded considerably since Bella was born, so it's taking awhile. Plus Yen visited yesterday and today, so I had to do some hurling-and-stripping-and-stuff. Why aren't I painting now? Waiting for a coat to dry. |

It's a Medusa, Armageddon pattern. My original idea was simply to adapt the Forge World Medusa cannon to the Specialist Games Armageddon Basilisk. But the cannon was too wide. Why is that? By comparing the SG Basilisk enclosure to Forge World pictures of the 28 mm scale enclosed Medusa, I saw that the SG Basilisk was significantly narrower. So, I resolved to make my own Armageddon Medusa cannon enclosure. I extrapolated the dimensions of the enclosure and Doug printed it for me on the 3D printer. A mold was made and cast, and I used the resin copy as my template, mainly to file off the annoying 3D print layers. Some experimental and crappy sculpting eventually yielded the first pattern. The forward plates, rear hatch, and left doo-dad are Apoxie sculpt, which I'm not particularly enamored with. The dinguses on top and right are bits of Space Marine roofs. The hatch is an etched brass naval door. The rear extrusions are square plastic rod. |
