I'm scratch-building a Decimator from landraider parts and plasticard, and want to put some spikes and rivets on there. I have a few chaos spikey bits but not nearly enough. Any suggestions on what can be used? And what's a good way to do rivets? Philip |

Any particular faction? That could give alternatives to just general spikiness. If you were, for example, doing Slaanesh you could skip the spikes and go with weird contouring and such. Flames for Tzeentch. Rust and rot for Nurgle, etc.. Spikes can be done with plasticard but it's tough to get them even enough to not look Orky. You can use 28mm weapon tips from swords or spears to make big, vehicle-sized spikes and ram plates. Rivets - most commonly done by using thin foil or plasticard and punching the rivets through from the back so they stick out when glued on. Someone on here (can't remember who) used to make them with superglue by dipping a straight pin in a puddle of glue and placing tiny drops on the model, but that sounds awfully fiddly/challenging to me. |

Rivets can also be made by dabbing on small drops of thick paint (Metallics like Gold or Brass are decent.) It may take two coats to get a reasonably tall rivet so I wouldn't recommend the method for rank and file models. |

Pounce wheels are good for making rivets on thin plasticard. They come in a variety of diameters and teeth spacings. There's a couple of eBay at the moment, along with a bunch of roller skates... I used a pounce wheel through thin plasticard for my rivets. Here's an unpainted and a painted pic, so you can get an idea of how they look:

Thanks for the suggestions. I ended up punching some rivets through the back of a thin sheet of plastic using a drill bit - worked ok, a bit tedious if I had to do a lot (which I don't). Cheers Philip |
