Did something change that I missed?  Or is Forgeworld just being lazy?

And where are the stats for some of these FW items?  Which Imperial Armor book has those in it?

Y'know- I was wondering this very thing last night.  Its the same on their 40k scale kits i think.

The models were originally designed for Epic 40,000, back when it made no difference if your Leman Russ had sponsons, hull mounted plasma weapons, different types of cannon etc, all they had was a 'firepower' value that was the same for each type of Leman Russ, regardless of armament.


Then Epic : Armageddon came along, and weapons actually had stats once again...


Anyways for several of the Leman Russ models it doesn't matter (Conquerer, Executioner, Thunderer, Destroyer) as they're variants that don't exist in the SG range. So for the lists that do have these variant Russes (Death Korps & Armoured Regiment are about the only ones AFAIK), you just cost the Russ differently (less) and it's all good.

For the Vanquisher... well it's just not as good at killing things without the sponsons now is it? :)

Standard kit for Leman Russ in epic is gonna be Bolters normally... but if you're a fan of detailed rules lascannons could be cool too lol!

The sponsons from the E40k Predators are also brilliant for upgrading the FW Russes. I bought a bunch back when GWUS still had their archive bitz service active.

I don't tend to wonder that much about why the Epic versions had no sponsons as they're just copies of the 40k kits. The thing that puzzles me is why the 40k scale ones dont? Purely aesthetics?

Just another example of F/W doing it's own thing and ignoring what G/W does as far as Epic goes.  That has always been my "beef", with F/W ... the sizes don't match.  So why should there versions match ... We just look at them are different Mk.s or versions.  But none the less ... F/W and G/W should get on the same freq !

The 40k kits do have sponsons... but only as plastic components that come with the standard Leman Russ kits.

FW tend to like slightly more realistic tanks, so there are less sponsons when they put their models together, smaller gun barrels etc.


And as I said, when the models were first made, it didn't matter whether or not your tank had Sponsons... all that mattered was your tank's "firepower" rating (And that's why Epic 3rd edition wasn't so good lol).

I simply prefer having the choice.

That having been said, the new sponsoned E:A Leman Russ are fugly. I would prefer them to have been separate pieces for greater quality, but there's always that price issue.
