Just wondering... how do you sculpt faces on epic? I'm planning to do captain Tyco and other blood angels characters, and not sure what I should do. With tyco, half his face is covered anyway, so probably just use teh normal captain head with the targetter. But just wondering anyone got some tips or pics of their own sculpted heads? |

CAn't say I've been particularly successfll but the few times I've attempted anything like that I've started with the eyes and the mouth. then pressed in the cheeks on the sides. and finally by working the upper lip and the inner parts of the eyes I've trieed to get a nose to appear. Everything need to be fiddeled with though, unless you want the guy to look like the Michelin man... ?There's got to be a better way though... |

It's a bit of a nightmare, doing Epic faces... The best I've managed were these: http://tinyurl.com/yahl7s I start with a blob, and use a cocktail stick to sculpt them with. Poke it in for an eye, then without pulling it out, bend it round to the outside. Do that on both eyes, and it forms the shape of the forehead and part of the nose too. Then press the lowest third of the face flat. That leaves the nose area raised. Cut in a small mouth, then with the edge of the cocktail stick, flatten the bits each side of the nose. And be prepared for it to go wrong a lot... Regards, Reaver |

Uh, yeah. I've been doing my best with a scalpel, pin and been going half-blind in the processs. Once I figure out the secret I'll let you know, but I have a suspicion there isn't one... |

Here's my Iron Warriors Warsmith: ![]() The 'blob on green-stuff - then poke with pin' approach sort of worked for me - it's not too precise, so I doubt I'd try on normal faces; but for the bloated, semi-decaying 10,000 year old Chaos Marine Lord look I was going for seemed to work ok... ![]() |

That warsmith look good. And makes me want some own chosen... come chaos, come!!! ![]() I make heads adding little bit of stuff to the model and use sharp needle to make eyes and mouth and when dry add some hair etc, not with great success so far (wyches are best I think) , but I'm learning... ![]() |

What I do is this: start with a round blob. Using a scalple tip, push in the lower third of the face, and the two sides, to form a "T" (forehead and nose) & a "U" (cheeks & chin) surrounding it. then use a needle mounted in a handle* to form eyes, mouth & any extra detailing. If you wish, you can also push in the cheeks a little to add more detail, but its easy to end up with somewhing looking skeletal if that goes too deep. I always add hair as a seperate stage - I make heads in batches on thin wire poles. Hope that helps. ![]() |

My recommendation: be careful where you glue once your figures are done. I had made an EXCELLENT Necron Deceiver. The face was perfect, the horns swept back evenly, and the body was angled right to mimic the 40k version. All that was left was gluing on one arm. I took some low viscosity super glue and put a small droplet on the arm and set it against the body. I was worried about the glue touching the face/head, but figured gravity would save me, right? Wrong. The excess glue went up (laws of physics don't apply in 6mm scale modeling) and encased the head instantly. I tried repeating the effort, but the best I could do was a Necron Antelope. ![]() |

(Moscovian @ Jan. 16 2007,14:22) QUOTE Wrong. ?The excess glue went ?up (laws of physics don't apply in 6mm scale modeling) and encased the head instantly. Well the models are so small I would expect quantum physics to take over from the more mudane sane stuff that we are use to. ![]() |
