Some barrels are rather small and puny, and easy to break, especially when implemented in resin.

Suggested solution and experiment for self:

Cut length of wire, place in mold, poured resin will conceal wire. Wire adds structural strength.

a damn good idea , but how do you intend to support said wire in the mold while casting ?

Umm..how about pin vise and super glue?

Nah, just kiddin. I like the idea!

Would probably need the wire to be a little longer than needed, maybe with a hook end so it would never come out.

Good idea :cool:

What about casting in 2 steps:  Pour the resin into the barrel half, insert the rod.  Wait for curing.  Pour the remainder.
Could that work?

BTW, don't you have some otter whiskers you can use?

This technique is used quite commonly for resin horses - generally the legs have wires running through them. Often you can see the wire touching the surface, because it's very hard to keep them central, but once painted you'd never know.

And undercarriage legs on aircraft where the resin wouldn't otherwise be able to support the weight of the plane.
