My wife is painting up a Beil-Tan army for EA using the standard GW colors for all the aspects to make them easily identifiable and a turquoise and bone scheme for the guardians and tanks (to match her BFG fleet).

I suggested drybrushing the bases scorched brown, beastial brown then bleached bone for a good brown earth and then adding patchy snow to the bases to make them more visually interesting.

I haven't ever done snow in the 6mm scale so I was interested in peoples opinions on what would work best to do some nice patchy snow in this scale.

Has anyone used GW snow on EA minis?  Is it an appropriate scale?

I have used backing soda on 40K minis before but I thought that it would be difficult to get discrete patches on the bases using this technique.

Her paint job is turning out quite nicely so far as this is one of her first armies (especially the howling banshees).

Will post some pictures up when we get something nice done for the basing.

Cheers,

Mark

Not sure if it would help but I used the spray snow that people use on their Christmas trees for terrain and it came out good.  Just hold it back 12 inches or so and lightly cover the pieces.  Then you can wipe off the snow that lands on the troops with a soft, damp cloth.

It takes awhile for the snow to dry, but it works.

Hojyn has a chaos army based on charcoal grey stone with patches of snow in this thread.  You'll have to look through several pages but it's worth it.

I've used Woodland Scenics snow in the past.  It glues on just like normal grass flock and gives a good appearance.

I don't think I'd be brave enough to try Mosc's spray snow trick, but YMMV.

Thanks Neal. ?:)

I've used GW snow for these and, while it looks quite good, it also has some drawbacks :

- I've had to put two layers of snow in order to achieve a satisfying thickness ;

- It tends to adhere to the models (a bit like static grass... but only worse) and I've had to use a wet brush to remove it.

All in all, the result looks good but there are perhaps better solutions out there.

EDIT: BTW, Mark, if you're feeling lazy, the pics are on page 5 of my gallery. :)

Thanks guys.  The GW snow on your minis looks great Hojyn as does all of your minis.  I really like the gargoyles, the round bases and longer flying stems really makes then look really good, wish I had seen them before I painted mine.  I have been intending on using FW flying rippers as my Harridems but they are so fiddly to put together that it hasn't happened yet.

I think I will wait till next time I get into a city to compare the woodlands scenics vs GW snow scatter and see what the consistency of the grains looks like.

Moscovian I don't think I would actually be game to test your method.  She is very proud of her paint job and I would be too scared of getting snow on her minis.

I think I will have to test out a few methods on some unpainted minis first.

Check out Tuffskulls Space Wolves, they are a great example. He won the Specialist Games Morning Star with them.
