I use 92% pure alcohol; it's super effective. Vodka's only 35-40%; that won't work.

What type of alcohol is it that you're using? ethanol, or isopropanol. Or something else intirely?

Plain old ethanol.

Here, a liter of the denaturated (ie. undrinkable) 92% pure is about $3.

Just don't leave it in there too long - an hour is about right; overnight will dissolve the binder completely, leaving behind the pigment alone, and that can be hard to get off if it's jammed into a cranny good.

Safe for plastic; most of my elder army is second hand, and was stripped down with it.

I understand that a shop chain called michaels might sell it in the states; here you just walk into any convenience store and pick it up off the shelf.

Many thanks for this info guys. I tried Fiary Power Spray (UK) and it worked a treat.
removed almost all paint and glue, plastic and pewter, do wear gloves.
At £2.49 a bottle it's a reasonable way forward methinks.

cheers 6mmLawrence

That's really handy to know. Thanks a bunch. Not sure where I can get it over here in the UK though. Might have to do some interweb searches...

I was going to post a new thread, but this seems like a good place to drop this:

I did a writeup on my blog regarding an ultrasonic cleaner I picked up the other day. The review is in three parts - the first was posted today, the remaining parts will be posted as time permits in the next couple of days. Feel free to ask specific questions not covered by what I've already written. http://directfire.blogspot.com/

Too true. I still have the scar from the one (and only) time I used the stuff without gloves.

I've gotten it on my hands, but the first time it happened, I realized it was a caustic agent and rinsed really, really well...

Part 2 is now up with result photos.

I have found a nail polish remover that works on plastic. I soaked 6 plastic titans in it for 3 hours and the paint just slided away from the plastic. the color of the plastic changed though a little but did not soften or melted. And the nail polish contained acetone. I will need to do another test.

I tried with another brand and it melted the plastic in seconds.... But there are different types it seems. the one that worked also removed super glue.

I am using Dettol to strip acrylic paint for Epic scale 6mm miniatures. I have made a blogpost about the process here: http://boardgamegeek.com/blogpost/17505 ... ith-dettol

Regards.

Dettol does everything acrylic, don't bother with anything else! I've been using it for years, likewise for the chaps from Cut and Thrust wargames when they were trading in vast quantities of second hand stuff.
