Simple green can be bought online in the uk. http://www.simplegreen.co.uk/3/ is the website. Others claim fairy power spray works but I've not tried that myself

blimey £12 a bottle!

I know it has a lot of support but I'm still firmly in the power spray camp

it cost about 1/4 of the price and does a fantastic job

I usaully get it for free. My old Neighbor is like a VP for marketing or something. He would always brings bottles and packs of the newest or even experimental product. It was his way of making up for the Simple Green Buses, RV's and other large vehicles he would park on the street, taking up a bunch of space. But who knew Simple Green had Sea-doos!

The simple green is for concentrate that they recommend diluting to 1:4 with water for general cleaning so the 1 litre bottle goes a long way. I always use it neat for stripping and it normally lasts me a couple of years before I need to get more.

And no, I have no affiliation with company! It's just that I know it works on plastic, resin and metal models and is total safe to pour down the sink when your finished.

Does anyone know of a way to remove or loosed super glue without destoying plastic/resin, or are they just too similar chemically?

Simple Green makes superglue brittle. Try that.

Beyond Otterman's point about simple green, it's worth remembering that superglue seems to soften and melt a bit in boiling water. Resin, and especially plastic softens as well, but possibly not as much -- further, the superglue seems to absorb/react with boiling water in a way that plastic does not.

Much is dependent on the melting point of your plastic/resin, but the advantage to boiling water is that it's a fairly controlled method of applying heat (you know it won't go over 100/212 degrees.

superglue in most resins simply will not come out. it gets absorbed slightly into the resin, so the join is usually stronger/more solid than the resin around it.
i'd also be careful applying heat to resin, most will melt quite badly if you misjudge. considering that warm water and/or strong sunlight can warp forgeworld resin, you're probably out of luck on that front
simplegreen is awesome though. for plastics, thats definitely the way to go

Thanks for the tips about the hot water and the super glue. I think I will give that a try. If the bond does not fail from that, I will stick the minis in the freezer. Even though the plastic is melted by super glue, hopefully, if the bond has even a microscopic gap and the hot water effects the glue structure more than the plastic, perhaps the expansion of the water when it turns to ice will add additional encouragment to break the bond.
Just one more reason I prefer metal minis.

And/or 'soak and freeze' is probably a good method as well.... as you might expect from your familiarity with Chicago's winters and Chicago's roads.

CitraSolve

(a citrus-based solvent)

(a genestealer and Termageant later)
...Dissolves GW plastic

works fairly well stripping paint.

I use Pine-Sol. It works on metal and plastic and if the mini is left in a bath of it long enough it will take off superglue as well. The metal skullhamma in my orky thread had at least five coats of enamel on it and it stripped ok.

Also, you can use a fine brass brush to scrub pewterl minis to remove mold lines and clean around detail.

I'm using some Super Clean right now, and things seem to be going well, except that I neglected to buy gloves. When they reccomend you use them, they mean it.

Anyway, a few minor chemical burns later, and I've let it go for the night until I can get some gloves. Before I stopped, I was having very good luck stripping metal and FW resin, and was getting the paint (but not the primer) off plastic. Hopefully a longer soak will loosen the primer on the plastic wothout destryoing it.
