So if Simple Green doesn't work are you s.o.l. when it comes to resin?

Has anyone ever tried using a ultrasonic bath/jewelry cleaner/vibrator thing for stripping with simple green? I find that some paint in crevasses are really hard to get with SG alone.

Its time consuming but If you get a needle into the cracks when the model is fresh out of the simple green the paint usuall just comes off with a little work.

Well, I think I've said it before but it certainly bears repeating: brake fluids contain known carcinogens. The better it is as a paint stripper the more carcinogenic it is.

Isopropanol or isopropyl alcohol or even propan-2-ol as it's also called (damn my chemist forebears for not making up their mind) works about the same way as brake fluid on ordinary GW plastic. Requires a good soak and a scrub. Haven't tried it on resin. Isopropanol can be bought at technical grade from the pharmacy or computer stores. Likely cheaper at the latter. It's used as a cleaner for electronics among other things.

The advantage vs brake fluid is that the propanol itself is not recorded as carcinogenic. It's not very toxic either but one should not(!) inhale it as it's an organic solvent and hence associated with the risks of such. (Nausea, headaches and nerve damage after long time exposure etc). Also considering it isn't medical grade one can only imagine what nasty stuff can be found in the remaining <5% of it. All in all it is cleaner than brake fluid however and that's why I use it.

For metal I skip the careful part and go with acetone. (Or dimethyl ketone, propanone etc as it's also called. Chemists...)

Just a little FYI to answer my own question.

Brake fluid does work on resin. At least the older FW resin. I noticed they use different colors (types?) so it might not work for all, but it has worked for what I wanted it to do.

I didn't see it mentioned so I thought I'd add that Acetone/nail polish remover is also extremely handy for removing superglues & epoxies.  After soaking for a bit, they turn rubbery and can be pulled off of metal easily.

How many times do you use the same brake fluid?? I'm just finishing some homorguants and was planning on putting in a spure of Epic Marines. Is this a bad idea? The fluid has gone from clear to red now due to the painted guants.
