Hi everyone,

Just want to share a few pics of 2 newly (and mostly) completed project. (some may have already seen the Orks)

if you are in a hurry here are the links:
Orks
Blood Angels

First let's just say that I was a bit in a hurry so I took pics right after completion, so the pics are so-so and I'll have to learn to take proper pics of miniatures one day....

Orks
This project began mid 90's, and was completed a week ago (!), this horde was supposed to be my brother's as I was playing Eldar, but I inherited the project.

For years it was not used (epic 40k era), and when Epic A came out, I found the courage to get back to it. The problem was that I bought every new model available and thus end it up with alot of models, so that increased the modeling effort quiet a bit.

I decided that I would mix models from different era. It seemed a good idea at first. I also had to decide if I was keeping the square base stands or build new rectangular stands. I decided to build new rectangular stands and donated the old ones. I had to decide if I was integrating the old feral stuff into the new stuff, or keep it for a future Feral army, decided to put them aside for now.

Finally there is only one thing I can say, I'm not sure if any of these decisions were good! Any decision would of been good I'm sure, Orks are fine on whatever base, whatever color, whatever model, I even throwed a couple of gorgons and a leman russ in there and the boyz are happy...

Orks

Blood Angels
Ok, now this one also dates back to the second edition, I wanted to build a new Marine army based on the new models, but my mind kept insisting that the old Marines had to be completed first. This army was used by a friend that no longer plays, I would face his army with my Eldar on a regular basis. He also had IG stuff like bombards, thud guns, shadowswords, robots and one Ordinatus (that used to hurt!). I kept the IG stuff aside and just concentrated on what he had started.

He chose Blood Angels, and back then Blood Angels were orange....That color actually looked pretty nice on the table, in fact with the scale coloring efect they often looked red! Only problem is I could'nt match the exact orange color he used and decided to repaint everything blood red.

All models are from that era except the Reaver which was bought recently. I always wanted to paint a Reaver ever since I saw one in White Dwarf (89?), took 15 years but it's done...  :)

The Reaver is the model I enjoyed paiting the most, even know I  can't paint white and chose a blue/red and white pattern. Also I used black Gesso for the first time on the Reaver and was pretty happy with it. I don't think I'll ever use spray paints again.

Blood Angels

Now I can't wait to start the project I wanted to do all along, a new SM army, with the new models, this time I am aming for completion in 1 month, not 15 years.   :)

Fantastic - nothing beats fully painted epic armies! :D

I love the grungy look you have achieved on the orks too. If I was to ever do another ork army I would go that way instead of the dark red most of my models currently have.

Can't wait to see the next project Denis - thanks for sharing these!

Grand work, Denis - very nice army with an old SM style and flavour which I very much like - even the Landa looks SM era! Terrific horde of Orks - and that's the great thing about these force, the Orks look Orky, the marines look elite all the way. very nice.
And great work on the Reaver too.    :D  :D  :D

thanks for the nice comments!

For the Orks I pretty much copied the method  described on the Dropship site, and got inspired by the FW Imperial Update books, the rulebook, the Epic Lounge and a White Dwarf article about Speed Freeks (#279). I had to follow a system because my previous effort was a complete failure. (the tempest tanks were painted by someone else)
I must say that half way in the project all the methods got mixed up, I would switch from scab red to red gore to blood red unintentionally, some have a brown wash some don't, there is even a Slasha Gargant with a dry pastel weathering job in there.... for the Orks everything works...

For the Blood Angels, I first followed an article in White Dwarf 142 written by Mike McVey, but then opted for blood red instead of blood angel orange and did not bother with detailing. I added a red ink wash and some drybrushing but it didt'nt do much, I guess I`ll opt for more contrast next time.

Very well done, Denis. I wouldn't worry to much about switching colors with the Orks, since it gives them some character. If you were painting a unified scheme, say for IG, then I would be concerned, but for Orks it works well, IMO.

I think they all look good, but I must admit I love the Reaver the best. :;):
