Hi all,
Wessex are planning a pair of games based on (and adding on to) Aeronef: Aquanef and Land Ironclads.
My air fleet for the Knights of Malta has had a load of Land Ironclads added - many based on obsolete Epic models, including my old favourite, the box Vindicator. Here's my first batch of 5.  :80:

The first pic above shows my full complement so far - 3 Vindies, a 1/76 scale Renault tank, and a conversion. The colourful Vindies are based on a paintjob by Justiniel (!) and they belong to the family of the knight St.Just (only fair!). They were originally orky colours, and I was about to paint over them when I realised that some of the knights (all from nobility) would insist on painting large coats of arms, ostentatious colours identifying their families, etc. Room for a bit of colour in the drab Victorian world!
The less colourful Vindy belongs to the noble LoQuattro (hi, L4  :p ) who believes in camouflage to the extent that he had his crew draw the tip of an obelisk onto his tank in order to make it look like part of an Egyptian ruin (by lads will be invading North Africa, it seems!). Mysteriously, grass started growing on the Vindy hull around the Obelisk. The knights cannot explain this, but LoQuattro is more than happy with the result - the camouflage is even better (exept in the more deserty bits, where grass shouldn't grow!). Nothing like a bit of character.

Nikola Cottoner will be my 2nd largest tank. A big forward-firing gun, and a couple of gun ports to either side - an easy dodge for adding cannon! The cat hairs on the mast are not a permanent feature! The Renault, incidentally, would face the other way round. For any wise guy pointing out the obvious relation to the real tank, my explanation is that the Renault design occurs in all universes - in this one, it happened earlier - and bigger!
Here's old Niko again.

The Amazing Electric Blockhaus is a very experimental design which proves the rule that to work well it has to look good. This one  is a death-trap, too high for its own good, too lightly armoured, underarmed, with the cannon on top and a single gunport to port, and with an extremely unreliable electric engine which regularly leaves it high and dry and immobile. It IS fast for its size, though, and in its career started of as a wonder weapon, rapidly became a punishment posting opportunity, and then turned into a magnet for the younger knights on caravan wanting to prove themselves in battle. It has had to be towed back, riddled by enemy fire dozens of times, but it is also a lucky - ah - ship.
It's obviously a Cyclops turret on a pair of wheels from GZG vehicles - thanks CC. The current commander is Commissar of the Caravan Cubano.

PS - we need to start a Land Ironclads thread in Battlecomms, old chap!

Good Show Old Boy! ?:D

That Cottoner looks great.  In fact I have some in 6mm which I will now be doing the same thing with.  Mr Renault's grandfather was ahead of his time, though true family fame was to come later in the civilian market in the era of mass production.

The electric blockhouse is my favourite though.  I can just see one with a gritter grey ironclad scheme with two brass screw gun barrels protruding!  I could also see a more rustic verison towed into action with Elephants by the Pathan tribesmen in the Afghan War.  It qould quickly reduce those stubborn outlying British garrisons...  Maybe I need to send you a Commisison for another for the Far east Asian Theatre!

Love the re-use of the Vindicators Vanvlak! :D

They actually fit pretty well with the milieu IMO.

As well, on a related... if silly... take on VSF...

One of my gaming buddies and I were discussing the concept of "Air Cavalry" in VSF games.

We basically came to the conclusion that air cav in the Victorian period would consist of a Zep flying low over the drop zone and using drogue chutes to drop real cavalry on pallets out the back on top of the target.

Needless to say the system is still a wee bit experimental. :p

I also thought about "Lufttruppen" bungee jumping out of a hovering Zepplin!
They will be the Prussian answer to the British "Guards Rocket Regiment" :D

Bungee jumping Prussians?!?!

Tas... thats Brilliant! :D

Needs a more ominous sounding name though...

how about "Korps Angriff des Federelementes"

I think thats "The Bungee Jumping Assault Corps" but perhaps someone who actually does speak German can clean up the grammer.

I would add a +1 Assault Value from impaling people with their pickelhaubes as well.
