Post subject:  Aeronautica Imperialis Size Question

I admit I might not have searched long enough, but I can't seem to find any pics of the new plastic Aeronautica stuff next to old Epic non-aircraft vehicles and figures. I know they're supposed to be a different scale than Epic but if it's not too bad I might pick up some stuff.

Mostly thinking about Valkyrie's but it would nice to know if the fighters aren't too much bigger than they should be. Bombers are bombers and it doesn't matter if they're a bit big, but the Thunderbolts look enormous.

Thanks in advance.

The plastic AI models are around one third bigger compared to Epic infantry and vehicles than you would expect from 40k - https://photos.app.goo.gl/qLqKr12dDvoX2PRe7

I think they still look fine together though and I'm going to paint up an Elysian Drop Troops army using the new AI Valkyries, Vultures etc to use at UK Epic tournaments.

Here's some Tau for extra comparison - https://photos.app.goo.gl/jVNLWTNGyErGgiCD8

AI2019 models are 1/4th size their 40k equivalent. This is the same scaling as AT2018 incidentally
They're just dandy to use and quite common (both) on epic tables.

I don't have my Imperial planes with me, but I've been painting the Tau ones (forgeworld and new AI) and the difference is very noticeable - so much so that you won't be able to mix them in the same force. THey would not look bad next to infantry, but do so next to the older planes:

left is the old forgeworld model.

I am patiently waiting for my plastic Eldar aircraft that are 3x bigger than the Epic:40k era metal models they will be replacing.

Similar situation. Actually same with the Marines (you know they're coming). I've got a huge pile of FW Tbricks of various types but if they make this in hard plastic for AI19, I'm rebooting everything (Finally Plastic Thunderhawk CONFIRMED ;D )

Yeah we know a plastic AI Thunderhawk is coming. Out of the blue in 2017 Forge World released new updated slightly different looking 40k versions of the Barracuda, Tigershark and the Lightning. It was a bit surprising at the time but makes sense subsequently as they made 3d model versions of them to also use later for the recent AI game. The other aircraft model that also got a new updated model in 2017? Yes, the Thunderhawk.

I only have the old Epic Imperial guard stuff from GW and some 3rd party proxys to compare the new Aeronautica with. Lightnings and Valkyries.

The new Aeronautica looks to be about an 8mm scale to match the new titanicus game.

I would love them to release the Chaos, Dark Eldar, Eldar, and Necrons. But it all depends upon how popular they become and how much sales increase.

Neither Aeronautica nor Titanicus are 8mm scale, though.

Louder for all those giving a mm scale to AI/AT:

The scale is 1/4th the 40k model. PERIOD. 40k has no fixed scale and is neither internally nor externally in scale with itself. So use what you want and get back to enjoying our little toys ;D

So would I, sister. PREACH! :)
I'm certain CW Eldar are coming (I suspect that's not the next faction but that's just my guessing). Chaos without a doubt is coming.

I suppose the most obvious 'next' sets of forces to release are Space Marines (now that they have more than T-hawks in 40K) and probably Eldar. Both the box sets so far have had Imperial forces, so I imagine the next set will follow suit and include Space Marines.

It will be interesting to see if they do both the Epic-related Eldar aircraft and the aircraft from 40K, or if they just do one or the other.

Then, if/when they do Chaos forces, I wonder which set of chaos flyers they will include.

After that, though, I kind of wonder if they will make a box that is Xenos vs Xenos.

Necrons have Night Scythe, Doom Scythe, Night Shroud.

Chaos have Hellblade, Hell Talon, Harbinger, StormBird, Doomwing, Firelord.

Dark Eldar have Razorwing, Void Raven, Slave Bringer, Executioner Landing Barge.

Eldar have Nightwing Interceptor, Phoenix Bomber, Vampire Raider.

Marines have ThunderHawk Gunship, Storm Talon, Storm Hawk, Storm Eagle, Lander, Storm Talon, Nephalim, Dark Talon, Storm Eagle, Fire Raptor, Caestus Assault Ram.

Custodes and Sisters of Silence have Orion Assault dropship, Areas Gunship, Kharon Pattern Acquisitor.

Tau still have Sun Shark Bomber, Razor Shark Bomber, Orca Dropship, Baracuda, Tiger Shark, Tiger Shark AX-10, Manta.

Guard/Imperial Navy have Thunder Bolt, Lightning, Avenger Strike Fighter, Marauder/Marauder Destroyer, Arvus Lighter.

Even Nids have the Harridan, Harpies, Gargoyles, Hive Crones.

Post subject:  Re: Aeronautica Imperialis Size Question

The eldar also have Hemlock wraithfighters, crimson hunters (or nightshade interceptors, since that is the airplane name), vampire hunters, and void dragon phoenixes

Chaos forces also have Helldrakes

I’m almost certain that there are other that aren’t on your list, but the real question is - which aircraft are in the current game canon, in the opinion of GW

We shall see, I suppose, but the inclusion of the thunderbolts and marauders hints that the old epic units are still on GWs radar (pun intended).
