So, I've been away for a long time, again. 2019 wasn't a great year, and I stopped painting around May. This current unpleasantness has me more indoors and so I'm back to painting, and may, just maybe, I'll be good and stay a while. No promises, though

And, because I had quite a few forumware stuff lying around, I decided it was time to give my Sons of Horus an opponent, so the Fists are coming. No, defending. No, scratch that - they're Legiones Astartes, they're gonna go do their thing :)

I've painted these dudes up over the past month or so:

Very cool, nice yellow. The highlighting on the mastodon is particular great.

Thanks. I like the model very much, so I tend to spending a little more time on those models that I like and it's a lot of fun to try and push the contrast here. Still a long way to go, but I'm enjoying the ride :)

Wow these marines tower over that Guinness factory terrain! Lovely stuff, appreciate the icon guide too.

They really are huge compared to the guinness factory - they truly towered over ordinary men in the heresy era :spin :spin

You're welcome about the icon guide - I was initially under the delusion that I might actually get the symbol in there, but then came to the conclusion that my 000 brush was way too big ;D

Thanks, Apoc - I decided to go with reddish bases precisely because I felt they'd contrast well with the yellow

So, what I did was this - all these were GW paints:

0) GW Wraithbone undercoat (sprayed on)
1) sepia + druchii violet + lahmian medium wash (about 1:1:!) in the lower third of the Mastodon (I skipped this stepi on the next Land Raiders)
2) Iyanden Yellow Contrast paint all over the vehicle - it pooled a bit - didn't worry
3) stipple drybrush Yriel Yellow all over
4) stipple drybrush Flash Gitz Yellow (upper 2 thirds of the vehicle)
5) stipple drybrush Flash Gitz Yellow + White (1:1) (upper third and heavier on the top)
6) edge highlight Flash Gitz Yellow + White (1:2) (or you can just go Dorn Yellow)
7) edge highlight dorn yellow + white (1:3)

It's a bit work intensive, but you go through steps 1-5 in 5-10 minutes for the Mastodon and about double that for the 5 land raiders

Really nice looking army. Yellow is very hard to pull off but you've managed it spectacularly. Good effort.

Thanks! I think it's a bolter array on each side of the front doors, but I left it black (Secret Weapon's Tire Black, actually, which has a slight green tint

Thanks - incridibly, I have found it is actually an easy color to pull off with the steps I described in the post just before this latest round of pictures

An absolutely fantastic looking army - as others have said you have nailed the yellow.

And great to see a fellow 30k/Epic player here!
