Can somebody explain to me how you guys mount infantry on FOW bases? Do you use special bases with round holes for each miniature? Do you green stuff around the individual round base of each figure? Hell, I'm desperate here. Everything I do looks horrible. I tried to even out things with GW texture paints and acryilic texture gel, but I'm not happy with my results. I use small FOW style bases made of 2mm MDF.

I build up the ground level around the round bases with putty or plasticine, then add textured paint.

I took a base, drilled out 1/4" holes, pluged the holes so they're only about 1mm deep, and cast it.

I've also used .8mm thick cork, with holes punch out with a 1/4" hole punch, to recess the infantry. That's probably a little more accessible for most people. Although it's a bit of work, as you have to punch the holes and round the corners to fit the top of the FoW base.

i don't base my infantry stands on FoW bases but I have plenty of infantry on my tanks bases which are n FoW. I always build up and sculpt the base using Vallejo sandy paste and lots cork, plastic sprue bits and polystyrene parts and sometimes modeling clay or greenstuff. This will hide the plinths just fine. Once built up and sculpted and dry I can go at it with a technical paint if desired.

These dudes are based on just standard bits of 20x20 MDF wood

I either use a mix of what IJW suggests (using putty) or for packed infantry like these I use a mix of Tamiya textured diorama/soil effect paint. I believe there are equivalents from other manufacturers.

Process is:
- use a lollipop stick to put a thin wedge of the textured paint onto the base.
- Dab of superglue on each miniature and stick on the base. You might have to wiggle it as you do so it kind of buries into the textured paint a bit.
- Once the minis are on the base, use a toothpick or other fine implement to cover the miniature base edges - don't worry about it being perfect. If the paint gets a little flaky add some water to the tool to help smooth it.
- Once is has dried you can add some classic PVA + sand/flock to cover up any imperfections.

This is probably the least painful way I have found of it doing it. And you'll get dozens and dozens of bases from one pot of the textured paint (although make sure you don't keep it exposed as it dries when exposed to air very quickly!)
