Wanted to say hi to everyone and thanks for the join!

I currently live in an area with no Epic-ness, I play 3rd Edition years ago, however now I am trying to invigorate it at the local club.

Reasons, we all want a good HH campaign....however costs/titans are insane prices, and you cant get the massive battles theme in 28mm.

With some googling I found the 30k rule (EpicAU), and I've had a scan through. Essentially, are these the best ruleset for 30k games in Epic, also (I Cant tell yet), are they independent on Epic 3rd and Arma?

Some input or clarification much appreciated (or other better 30k rules)....i really prefer printed, and the Epic AU doesnt seem to come that way :-/

The first thing to know is that the Horus Heresy supplement isn't a stand alone game, it's a supplement using the core Epic Armageddon rules (4th edition) with some additions needed for specific things unique for the setting (such as representing Primarchs or other 31stM coolness). This means you should be familiar with the basic game rules which you can get in PDF and online textual version here=>

When you're comfortable with the mechanics, then add in the HH specific rules.

Second, do note that most of the EA information you read will be usually 100% applicable to the HH games you play. A major caveat being that HH games are generally played at higher point costs representing the readily available super weapons at that time but of course you can play any size game you and your opponents want to. There's no "bag-fun" way to play

Third, can you clarify if you mean that getting ahold of epic titans is expensive or are you meaning the massive (in size and cost! ) titans from FW in 28mm? If you mean the former, there's several manufacturers around that make excellent stand in proxies for great prices and exceptional detail that may work for your needs. The most important ones being Vanguard Miniatures and Onslaught Minis. We also have a pretty good trade section here so always feel free to post things you need/want.

In addition, never feel you cannot use markers or other stand-ins for units/models that you don't have yet. Better to play the game than get caught up on having "that specific model", especially in the beginning.

Edit: if you are starting from scratch without a collection you should honestly consider using Vanguard Minis 3mm line for HH battles. The details are amazing, the costs are low, and you can field absolutely gigantic games in a standard table top setting. If I could turn back time I'd do everything possible to convince GW that epic shoudl have stayed a 3mm game (AT was 3mm, it grew to 6mm once they brought in more stuff)

I'm in very much the same boat Conscriptboris - old Epic player, realised the game was still alive many years later and now looking at doing a similar thing to yourself and building a 30k Heresy army (World Eaters in my case, although looking more at Great Crusade era when they were still good guys )

very interested to see what you come up with, make sure you post a thread in the painting and modelling sections!

That's the plan here! I want to pick up an order (most likely being multiple orders) from Vanguard, base using the NetEA ruleset, and play using the 30k supplement and list builder.

I was talking about 28mm titans! I have a stormbird, but the cost made me sick so won’t be doing anything like that again!

Ref 3mm, I get what your saying, I really do! But a big part of me really likes to use the proper models, proxies are good, I’ve looked at the suggestions, but I can’t bring myself to use a landraider...that’s not a landraider :-/

If you're not a fan of non-printed or rules on a screen, you can get the Epic Armageddon rulebook available at a pretty reasonable price, most of the time. Usually a few on ebay at any one time (in the UK at least) going for between £8-20

Basically I've got the book which tells you most of what you need to know (and is actually a really nicely printed rulebook, full of stuff) and then printed off the reference sheets (Legion Astartes units and then points values) for my HH force, which is only 3-4 pages.
