I've just finished painting up an old Plague Tower of Nurgle for a friend and wanted to include
a banner (given the giant flag pole thing on the back - it seemed appropriate !).
Anyway, I wanted to try and make the banner look as though it had been shot at a few
times and generally in the wars.
The first step was to find a good banner. I found some fantastic ideas on an old Dawn of War
site and copy & pasted one of these into Word to create the flag :
http://wh40k.ei8ht.net/When the flag had been attached to the model, I used a hobby knife to gently 'cut' horizontally
across the flag. The idea is not to actually cut into the material but to slowly 'fray' the edge
furthest from the flag pole and also scratch the image on the banner.
This resulted in a ragged effect but left white paper showing. Not good. To cover the white,
I added 'Gryphonne Sepia'. I'm really pleased with the finished effect.
A photo to follow when I manage to find a good photo hosting site (after the Photobucket
debacle).
