I thought I'd share some photos of the tyranids I've been working on recently :) Not that much to see yet really but it's a start.

I painted an initial 10 models for the army 3-4 years ago but never got round to basing them. I'm gong to partly repaint them a bit closer to the GW Leviathan scheme though and do a faster dryrushed version for the rest, as though the painstakingly highlighted carapaces look nice they took WAY too long.

I aim to get a fully painted army done by some point next year and to have a large collection of maybe 8k or so I can run various different regular sized lists from.

A couple of WIP Spore Mine Cluster formations (bought painted from eBay and I'll be stripping it off them), screening some Hive Nests.

I like the fenced in stealers. Are the wings on the tyrant in the last picture from FW's flying rippers?

Thanks! I'm quite proud of that one. I plan to do lots of detailing on their bases to make them more interesting and there'll be lots of nice forum Blood Angels modelled on their bases in combat with them too.

Yeah, that's where it's from, it's a good fit I reckon. The FW flying rippers set includes a few pairs of smaller wings that luckily fit tyranid warriors to make some of them winged too. There's only enough to make one stand of winged tyranid warriors per rippers set though, so I'll need to buy a second one at some point. I have spare wings for the Hive Tyrants should you or anyone else want some, though I can be bad at actually getting round to selling stuff.

Good stuff! I definitely get where you're coming from on the speed front - a wise choice when you need to paint an infantry horde.

What are you going to use for gargoyles?

I have a couple of stands of the Shapeways ones and they're beautiful but very thin and fragile. Screencap as I don't have time for a photo right now:

I've heard of other upcoming proxies for them too e.g. Wintersmute is working on some I believe.

Capillary towers, ho!!!

Post subject:  Re: The evolution of Hivefleet Leviathan

I'm imagining them more as spore producing towers. I think I'd like some kind of spike or stucture in the middle, connected to the other bits by srings of sniew, but I'm not sure what to use for it yet.

I'm going to be using 4 of the 40k Forge World Capillary Towers as Hive Nests (units in the Epic-UK list, I forget if Net-EA has them). They'll be sizeable for 3DC WE but 'nids do have Capillary Towers growing up to low orbit.

Really like the Dominatrix miniature conversion - it looks suitably massive!

Yeah I agree. So... you're going to make one for me next, right? ;)
