Holy crap bags, this is some decent modelling right here. From the scenic base construction to the painting; absolutely superb!

Well, without a doubt, those go right into my top 3 6mm miniatures ever.

The amount of effort must have been... :o

A few people have requested information on basing techniques, so here's the first mini how-to on a few methods I use.

1.) Figures set in textured plasticard. I chop the infantry base up to its feet, then depending on the type of plasticard the figure will be set in, shave some of the height off with a sharp knife. Once I have the smaller base, I set it down on the plasticard in the position I want it, and score around the shape of the base with the knife. Then, cut the holes in the plasticard (done before I glued it to the rest of the base, but I didn't think to take pics up to this point):

You can see from the pic the brown plasticard is about 0.5mm thick, so this is how much a shaved the infantry bases back to. Set in, the figures look like this:

Simples! It doesn't have to be perfect, as any gaps can be filled in later.

2.) Roads. I want roads around the front edge of my base, so I lay down some slugs of Green Stuff:

Then press it down with my fingers until it has reasonably even thickness of about 0.3mm across the base. It's important to let the GS spill over the edge (also, If I wanted, I could set figures in once I have my even layer):

Then, using my wife's toothbrush, I stipple it to get a nice texture:

Leave it to dry, then follow the contour of the base with a sharp knife to remove the excess. Remember to cut down onto the base, as it's easy to lift the GS off if cutting up from the bottom. Hey presto - some low profile tarmac with a lovely clean edge:

I've set a few bits of ruins into GS to represent bigger chunks of rubble, and here's the base so far:

Thanks :) When I pull my finger out and paint the two Lightings that have sat on my desk for months, I'll photograph the rest.

Thanks! It's for a Space Marine Landing Craft. Another model I really need to finish painting so I can wrap up my Blood Angels.

The SM landing craft is a HEAVY bit of metal, will that stand be strong enough for it?

Yeah, it's a heavy duty plastic job from Australia IIRC. 3mm thick and double cube magnets. Good enough for the Forumware LC, which I'm guessing is even heavier than the GW version.

Absolutely love your army, found it so inspirational it was the final thing to encourage me to buy my first sisters. I'm still relatively new to painting so was wondering if you had any tips for how you did your sisters? Did you use a wash on them etc.

Any help would be really appreciated! Starting the painting is daunting atm!
