Love the Tau models. Hard to see the paint, think the lightning is very off on your fotos? |

Is this better for seeing the three styles I'm doing the models in?

I really wanted a Manta in my army; I mean, it's the biggest EPIC Tau model out there! I never wound up getting one while Forge World was making them, just couldn't justify the cost. So, I'd patrol eBay for them, and, occasionally, they'd come up... and go way over my budget. One time, I put in a "low ball" bid, just for fun, and watched as the price climbed well above my limit and I lost... and, three days later, got a message from the seller that the other buyers had backed out and mine was the winning bid! Yes, I know all about "remastered" models out there, especially the hard to get ones, but when I got the package with the Manta in it, it had the standard Forge World bag, the photocopied instructions, and the right colour of resin... so, I was convinced and happy and was super-excited to add it to my army! Of course, I've haven't used it yet... it's a massive target! Working on the detailing now and debating what kind of camo, if any, I'm going to do.

Much better with the light. And the Manta is such a great model, lucky if you got it cheap ![]() |

I need an answer to a question: are Tau Fire Warriors concerned about safety? I'm debated whether to but a yellow "WARNING: AIR INTAKE" stripe on the big engines of the Tau tanks or if I should just leave it in the normal camo. Here's an example of with and without. (That's a Pathfinder Devilfish, they use a different camo pattern so they can more readily infiltrate their tanks. Thoughts?

I went for a white trim on the air intakes. It would match the white on your camo, highlight the engines but not be too visible. I've come to the conclusion that my epic camo painting should look like camo (hint at camo), but actually make the models reasonably visible. Camo - real life hiding. Epic - eye catching models. I really like your left camo pattern on the previous post. |

One formation done... just waiting for the vanish to dry! "The Red Devils" - 375 points Tau Armoured Cadre 200 4 Hammerheads (Rail) 25 1 Hammerhead (Rail) 50 1 Skyray 100 Some kind of glitch caused a number mix up in the maintenance drones inventory system and when this tank cadre was being fitted for camo, the base was a deep red, instead of the usual urban blue-grey. Requisitions said all the numbers were correct so, yes, that was the correct pattern and the Tau tank commander had to accept it and take to the field in his nice, bright armour... When the opposing Imperial commanders saw such garishly painted Tau approaching them, with apparent disregard for standard concealment tactics, they panicked... what new trickery was this? The Tau won the day, the legend of the "Red Devils" began, and the Tau commander quietly put in requisition for all the mislabelled red paint...

Andrew_NZ wrote: I really like your left camo pattern on the previous post. Thanks! I really like it too... but those Devilfish really disappear into my urban ruins terrain! *laugh* I decided to forego painting the warning stripes; looking at a bunch of Tau picture references shows the intakes painted in whatever the unit's camo/paint scheme is... so, I guess Fire Warriors are very careful on their own, without need for warnings... at least those Fire Warriors that actually make it to combat! |

More power painting! Don't really have a story for these guys, yet, but I've been calling them the "Grey Ghosts"; another alternate paint scheme to break up the monotony of the urban camo. I might add a Pathfinder Support Group to the mix once I get the models for them. "The Grey Ghosts" - 1325 points Firewarrior Cadre 6 Fire Warriors Bonded Team 3 Devilfish 1 Skyray Battlesuit Cadre 4 Battlesuits Shas'El 2 Battlesuits Broadside Group 6 Broadside Battle Suits Recon Skimmer Group 3 Piranha 3 Tetra Barracuda Squadron 2 Barracudas
