So, in addition to my space marine armies, I'm also working on some Tyranids. I've worked out a big whole list of all the 40k tyranids I have and how I can use them. For example, I can make Hierodule's out of gaunt bodies and heads with whatever weapon arms, or make a harridan out of gargoyles, or make a hierophant out of warrior bits.

My first model is a Barbed Hierodule with scything talons and bile launchers. I used a Termagant body with the legs cut and glued at an angle so the body is leaning forward like the 40k Hierodule model. The head was cut off, the neck shaved down, and the back of the head cut so it's a smooth transition from torso to head (again like the 40k model). It was tricky, but I managed to squeeze in 4 arms, 2 with the tips of devourers glued to spinefist hands for the bile launchers, and two hormagaunt scything talons. Only thing not represented are the Cluster Spines. For the scythed Hierodule I'll make next, I'll just use 4 scything talon arms, maybe use one pair of bigger ones to represent the Razorclaw attacks.

I'm gonna take a similar approach with a Hierophant, just using bigger scything talons for the front legs, and using a warrior body arched up. Gotta figure out how to make the tentacles though. I considered using the Lictor or Genestealer head with tentacles, but I don't have any and they're tricky to find on eBay. the large biocannons will be whatever larger bioweapons I have, maybe barbed stranglers. Or maybe devourer or spinefist arms with fleshborer barrels.

Other projects will be using Rippers as Raveners, and somehow converting Malefactors, Exocrines, Haruspex's, and Dactylis from various Gaunt bits. Tricky part with those is how to use the gaunt/gant stuff i have now, but make them smaller than the Hierodules and closer in size to a tank.

anybody got ideas on how to make scratch-built or converted Haruspex's, Malefactors, Exocrines, and Dactylis'?

Right now my speculative idea for Exocrines is to cut down Hormagaunt bodies (they're a bit slimmer than Termagants so they look a little smaller I think) so they're just the ribcage, a cut-down tail, cut-down legs, and the same head/neck conversion as the Hierodule but maybe cut the head down even more so it just looks like eyes and a mouth coming from the front of the body. Then stick a fleshborer barrel on the back or something. Made a quick photoshop of it to show the rough idea. Might still be a little too big, would probably end up the size of a land raider.

I don't have access to any 40k gaunt bits to play about with and help at present, but that mock up put a grin on my face. LR size should be ok.

If you don't mind spending some money, there are extremely well-cast proxies for exocrine and haruspex models.

lol I know, it's rough, but I can see it in my head and it might look ok. As long as I cut down the legs enough.

yeah, I've seen his stuff. They look absolutely gorgeous but I just can't justify spending hundreds of dollars on an exocrine detachment or whatever.

Nice Hierodule! :D

I did my Exocrines like this:

Image

but they try to be similar to the 40K model, not to the original for epic.

I menat to say "they" try to look similar to 40k model
a T is missing there XD
I wasn't trying to impose how you should do your models! xD
Those are gaunts (the cannon is a fleshborer), with genestealer arms and reaper swarms head.
