So I've been looking for cheap drop pods to use for Net:EA, and seeing as how all the 6mm-scale ones that are available for 3D printing are quite expensive, all the old ones on eBay are quite expensive, and then there's these:

http://www.shapeways.com/product/V75TXHRWL/3mm-drop-pods-12-pcs?optionId=42141499

Measuring from the images, each individual pod measures less than 10mm tall, closer to 6-7mm, so about the same size as an individual marine. So they are extremely small. But they come on a base of 3 drop pods. And it only costs 11 bucks for 12 bases, each with 3 pods.

I kinda know that they are too small, but the crazy-cheap price is just so tempting....

Get several, and put lots on a round titan base. Then it will look like a cluster of them came down, like in 2nd Edition when each squad got it's own pod. Put one dead center on the base to act as the measuring point for the pod rules. I think that will look great.

EA rules were written using only one pod model per formation so that players didn't have to buy so many pod models (at least that was the reason given), but I kind of like the old drop-and-scatter method with lots of models.

Any reason you don't want to use Onslaught miniatures or Gregster's Lab pods?

well, part of it is that I was just looking around for drop pod proxies that look more like the "modern" drop pod design. Both of those ones are more spherical. And these ones on Shapeways are dirt cheap, only 11$ CAD with the cheapest plastic to get 12 bases of them. The Gregster's Lab one is almost 8$ CAD each, and the Onslaught one is 17.50 CAD for 3.

If I'm going to order stuff from your website, it'll probably be some Legion infantry to fill out my Tyranids :)
Those are more of a priority for me right now than drop pods anyways.
