The Reaver looks like he has a little Capt'n in him.

Thanks for the complements, guys :)

Yeah, that was a fun pose to build! Took about half an hour of sanding down the Land Raider to get the leg height to look natural, and I had to pin the heck out of this guy as well, but totally worth it for the effects. Pretty sure it'll wind up being one very dirty and shot up Imperial Fists tank when I'm done with it, to keep it thematically linked with my Iron Warriors.

Later this summer I'm going to be getting into final stage conversions on my Banelord. I have all the parts I wanted to upscale the Battlehead, Havoc Missile Racks and the Hellstrike Cannon (tails I already have covered), also thinking about adding sacrifices, broken wards and shattered restraint chains too...

Edit: Because it's uncool to respond to a WIP thread with text only, here's an idea of where I'm going with the Banelord's Battlehead...

And yes, it fits just fine if you remove the lower of the two head armor cowling pieces ;)

Minor update, and a little change of pace - I've been feeling a little under the weather since coming back from a week of international travel (straight into final stage audit prep), so I didn't really have it in me to dive back into fine detail painting on my Legio Suturvora engines, so last night I picked up a side project I'd had kicking around.

Image

I followed GW's paint scheme for weathered bronze because I wanted the templates to look like they're plotting tools you might find in the command deck of a centuries-old Warlord titan in active service - well loved but showing some age.

I think they turned out pretty well for my first attempt at the paint scheme, although if they were real weathered bronze they'd mostly be copper oxide and a little bit of dull brown bronze where moisture couldn't easily reach (artistic license and all that). Hopefully I've achieved "well-polished, but there's still a patina there where the servitor can't easily get."

Yeah, the initiative token isn't entirely realistic either, but I needed a way to break up the monotony of the bronze, so artistic license and all that.

Cheers folks, and hopefully I'll have some decent WIP photos of the Suturvora engines by Sunday.

So I blew straight past WIP photos to completion here, but here’s everything I’ve painted for Suturvora as of NEAT XII, configured for an AMTL list:

Image

Many thanks to Dave for letting me borrow the excellent scenery in the photo! More pictures and a bigger update when I get back home, but I suspect there’s a post-tournament megabattle in my near future...

In WIP: Two more Warhounds, another Demi-Century, two formations of Crusader proxies, a couple of flights of Thunderbolt equivalents, and base decorations to represent Veteran Princeps & Legate upgrades.

Under construction: Banelord, Siegelord, kitbashing more carapace weapon options.

I think we need to have a mega battle. I can do 6k+ between Saim-han and Iyanden at the moment.

Hah, if I can finish my Skitarii, Crusaders, and Tbolts, 6k is very doable.

Between my Iron Warriors and Suturvora, Karl’s LatD, and Coach’s World Eaters we could probably push a couple of tables together and get a pretty big chaos invasion going sometime this fall ;)

I can too. Between you, me, and mattie we have a bona fide shitload.

Screw third phase expansion - bring on the fourth phase, motherf*ckers!!

Oh wait, facing 6k of Eldar sounds about as fun as a visit to the dentist.

Dave, you’re on my team. If I’m fighting 20k worth of Tau, I want as many teleporting Wraithguard on my side as you can bring :P

Finally updating with a couple more shots from when I laid out the army group two weeks back:

Image

I finished painting that converted melta cannon I'd been working on a few months ago ;) I really like how it turned out; it doesn't look like it was a kitbash, and it's performed admirably already in a game of AT18 (just ask captPiett; his Reaver took three bad hits to the torso when my Reaver died in a magazine explosion!). I kinda wish I'd made an attempt to mold & reproduce it... but if I ever need more than one melta cannon in a game of Epic or a down-scaled game of AT18... something's probably wrong. Both of the new Warhounds are in the back of the photo there as well. Their patterns don't match because they're going to wind up in different squadrons - I realized too late that I'd left two with basically the same legs pose unpainted :{[].

Image

And there's the big guy - this one's a little desaturated because of background lighting, but I think it has the best angle out of the photos I took of him after NEAT. It was not as hard to convert a "loyalist" Warlord into a "chaos" Warlord as I'd feared - at least not to the same "chaosified" standard as the other Warhounds and Reavers in my force. I trimmed down the stylized axe symbols into spikes wherever possible, and the biggest Forgeworld Chaos Star brass etch works pretty well cut down the middle and bent to fit the curves of the shoulders. If I didn't have all of the flame details the shoulders would seem a little bare, but that'll be a problem to solve for the Banelord. Finally, I liked the titan legions "cog & T" symbol on the shoulders too much to completely do away with them... so I found a reasonably-sized horned skull detail component and trimmed it down to mount over the icons and convert it into something more corrupted.

I think just about everything else has had a feature at some point in my painting log here, so I'll close with a shot of my workbench as of this evening:

Image

Dreadnought reinforcements for my Iron Warriors, more guns for the warlords, another demi-century, some crusader proxies, and some properly chaotic Thunderbolt replacements from the Vanguard range. I trimmed the spike details off - I kept snagging my fingers on them, so leaving those on wasn't going to be a winning solution - but the silhouette blends in with the Forgeworld flyers a little better that way anyhow. I've been retrofitting my titans' bases with 1/8" magnets, too - those Tech Priests in the front from Vanguard are going to get some magnets and will be used as markers to indicate which titans have Veteran Princeps or the Legate onboard in future games.

Along with all of this, I committed to an AT18 league at my FLGS that kicks off 7/12, so as if I haven't painted enough titans yet, I have another two plastic Warhounds and a plastic Reaver to paint up in Legio Tempestus livery ahead of the 12th (minimum game size is 700 points for the first 3 weeks), so there might be a few updates on those coming around the 4th, especially if next week is rainy.

I’ve been quiet for a few weeks, and here’s why:

Image

My local game store is running a Titanicus league, starting this week, so I now have *2* Chaos titan legions to paint!

Legio Suturvora is now joined by Heresy-era Legio Tempestus and unlike the “Mechanicum”’ novel, their loyalties lie with the lore ;)

I wanted to push myself, so Tempestus with checkers, camo, and clean whites seemed like a good idea. I aimed for something between the classic 90’s clean colors and the modern gritty “CAMO ALL THE THINGS!!!” Forgeworld scheme, and I think I’m pretty happy with the results.

These guys might get a few transfers, then it’s seal coating and tufts of tall grass to go with “generic sci-fi badlands climate.” Tonight’s their first outing, against Legio Defensor, so let’s see if I can survive getting my metallic butt shot off on turn one ;)
