That's it, you're dead to me.

In all seriousness: http://www.pfc-cinc.com/solar_empire_marines.html
Look up the twin mortar (SEM-26) and howitzer (SEM-36) pieces. Or, I can take a look when I'm back home and see if I have spares.

Drilling out gun barrels makes more of a difference than you would think. That said I'm looking at a Stompa mob I converted 7-8 years ago which I've just undercoated. Following reading your exploits I'm looking at them thinking I've not drilled out the gun barrels......well at least I had not painted them!

I bought some ThunderStrikes from DRM

Haven't actually assembled them yet - they are next on my list after my Hearthguard. Just going to make a new cruciform base (maybe make them from a Goliath base) and re-use the chassis for something else.

I forgot to mention http://www.pfc-cinc.com/catalog/item/80 ... 046714.htm

The bases on these are pretty good for Thunderfires, in fact the general model itself isn't bad as a proxy goes. Anyway, lots of good ideas all around. :)

The take away from this is: Get Thunderfires.

I knew it. I'll never play in any reindeer games now. Oh the ignomy... I should shave my beard (or maybe just trim it haphazardly a bit).

Thanks for the proxy tip. I'll have a look over this weekend.

Epic - Thank you very much! I'm glad that you are enjoying the pictures. I'm working on another unit right now. Hopefully I'll get some pictures of them up soon. Thank you again for your nice comment!

Taiaha - I agree with you that the cruciform base is a key component to a Thunderfire model. I'll look at that site that you and DoomKitten sent to me and find something that works. Thank you for the tip!

Here's a quick pic how my first Thunderfire proxy turned out.
Sorry for the crappy lighting etc, but hopefully you can get the idea.

DRM Thunderstrike.
Due to a slight miscalculation in scale I needed to add larger feet (the bases from some hapless Orks who wandered too close).
The rest of the base was 20 mins work in Sketchup. I'll probably add a bit more plasticard detail and call it done.

You can't fool me! I'm almost positive that there is a missing step in there.

1. Sketchup design
2. ________________
3. Get amazing base to glue stuff on.

I have been interested in doing 3D work, but every time I look into it, it seems like it all costs thousands of dollars. I know that Sketchup is free (I think), but this is the first that I've heard of it being used for small scale stuff. Any hints and tips would be well received!

Yes! Knew I've seen that, just couldn't place it at all. That's an awesome idea there.
