Post subject:  The Unpronouncable Log

Hello everyone!

I've been lurking here for a while, but I am going to start a building / painting / converting log for the many armies I am planning to do! Myself and a few mates (IridiumFire has recently joined up and introduced himself in the EA forum) have recently decided to get back into epic as a means to relive the good old days of Games Workshop's Warhammer 40,000, without having to play the small scale skirmishes we all have come to dread!

I have been particularly hit with the epic bug and have brought all my old miniatures out of their ancient carrying cases lost at the back of the storage room, and have decided to pursue a number of new armies while I'm at it (I don't even have a single army painted but more on that later).

I have read a number of these kinds of logs in this forum and I'm hoping by starting one I will be motivated into doing a little bit of epic every day. I have planned a nice ordered approach to the armies I want to have built, painted, and ready to dish out blast markers. Unfortunately, due my scatterbrained ways and my army-whoring I doubt I will stick to this plan, in fact I have already broken it by starting my Ork Gargant Big Mob army before doing my Eldar like I was supposed to. ::)

Anyways, here is the start!!!

The first 3 Stompas built. 3 more hopefully out by the end of the night but we'll see!

These fine miniatures are called Clanking Destroyers from http://www.kromlech.eu/ and they may be a slightly unusual stompa (they're not short and fat) but I really love the personality in the miniatures.

I will build another 3 and then look to basing these bad boys.

Just to end for now; some introductory info about myself, feel free to skip this for the TL:DR crowd.

I love miniature wargaming, it's been a passion throughout my life and I never grew out of it like my family and friends expected me to. Now I'm a boring adult with a fantastically cool hobby. I started wargaming at the tender age of about 11 when I first stepped foot in a GW with my older brother who was buying the old Character Decks to basically play top trumps with. Needless to say I was soon one of those snotty little kids that's always in GWs.

I mean really? Completely missed the point of GW!

Eventually I ended up at university where I met my current gaming group. We've been playing games ever since, and while I have had to move further away (3 hours) I visit regularly and get some epic games in (not necessarily 6mm). It is because of two of the members of our gaming group that my love of epic and this whole endeavour has come about! I am really looking forward to it.

It's been a pleasure reading your threads and I hope you enjoy my posts.

I felt I was a bit image heavy before, let me know if I should resize the images to be smaller...they feel a bit huge in my browser.

So another 3 stompas done! Including a Mekboy Stompa...which sadly doesn't have an army list entry but I thought it was cool nonetheless.

I managed to put basic basing material on these three but didn't manage to get the other three done. So maybe tomorrow there will be a group shot ready to get basecoated!

I'm a bit concerned about how big these miniatures are turning out to be, 40mm bases for AV seems like it would be too much. What are some of your guys' experience with base sizes? Are players generally finicky with this sort of thing?

Hi!

No such thing as "image heavy", especially when they are such lovely conversions. :)

Keep them coming!

Personally I would always keep them with legs and a "face" but that's me!

I guess these are more "supa stompa" size than regular "stompa" but they look way better than the old singe pose plastics - so I'd say that so long as the opponent understands what they are they should be fine. <3

Good point on the legs thing, the group I bought came with a few alternate movement options. Some unicycles (which I thought was ridiculous at this scale) and tank tracks, which I actually quite like...kind of like a speed freaks stompa.

The face is there! Its just moved onto the shoulder of the 'mekboy,' above the grabba claw. I was thinking that meks would have crazy ideas about their creations and thought this would be a cool way to show off some orkish ingenuity (if that even exists lol). I used a Hollander battlemech as inspiration for it:

It's been a while since any 40k scale miniatures really excited me... But those german themed Kromlech orks are simply awsome!!!

Iwonder if this miniture would be the right size for a superstompa/small gargant?

I certainly hope so, my plan is to convert 40k ork walkers into various gargants. I have loosely provisioned the following;

Kromlech clanking destroyer - stompa
Mega Nobz - supa stompa
Killa Kanz - Gargant
Dreadnought - Great Gargant
Morkanaut - Mega Gargant

All with heavy conversion work :)
I'm dubious about the Morkanaut as its rather large...but that huge front belly plate is calling out to me to fill it with guns...I haven't got a mega gargant in my lists yet so its over the horizon currently.
