Hi,

I don't want to overstep my bounds but I have noticed that the answer lies in another thread on the 6mm forum ;)

The man you are looking for is Thom, he is French. I believe you can contact him through Phillipe on this forum.

Cheers

Excellent work! I particularly love the smaller stuff, inspiringly done. The bigger ones still look a bit much like a recognisable 40k ork dread plonked down in an epic game though (perhaps add more smaller detail? Panel lines, plating, various little details?)

I'd suggest basing the Super-Stompa on a 50mm round base if you get hold of one - it makes it more obvious to the opponent what it is compared to the Stompas. I'd suggest maybe 70-90mm round for the Great Gargant then too.

Don't worry about the Stompas being too big - they look a good size and appropriate for a 4+ Reinforced Armour vehicle. Some of the epic older models were out of scale with the infantry - the old planes and titans in particular- and a lot of people these days model their vehicles bigger so that everything looks is in scale with each other, sometimes referred to as 'truescale'. This is a game where the first official Thunderhawk model was around 3cm long and the most recent official FW Thunderhawk was 10cm long (both are on the same size flying stand in those two photos) and both are completely game legal so there's a fair bit of leeway as to model size. So long as it's pointed out the opponent what is what at the start and types of unit are easily distinguishable all is good.

Cheers for the comments GlynG

That's not a bad idea on the base sizes at all actually...would help distinguish them and you're right on the model size it does vary greatly hehe.

Do you happen to have any tips for doing panel lines on my gargants? Or maybe have some reference material? :)

I agree it's always the subtle little things that scale a model, I had hoped the head would have done the trick but I can see how little panels and possibly doors and gantrys would really cement the model into scale...just no idea how to go about it in a way that doesnt make the mini really fragile :s

Do a load of googling of like 'ork gargant' and look at the armour plates on the 40k stompa. They're generally made of up of lots of small iregularly shaped pieces bolted/hammered into place and sometimes overlapping.

I can think of a couple of ways to do it. You could try scribing lines in the existing plastic with a larger needle or something stronger with a fine point. Not sure how well that would look. Or buy some thin plasticard (say 05.mm or less thick), cut plates out of it and glue them on, with holes or dots for rivets. Holes are easier for rivets if you even want to bother with that extra level of detail but tiny spheres could be used to, though it's a lot more fiddly (a household disposable water filter cartridge contains thousands of tiny spheres of differing sizes which are good for rivets).

The image is too big to link to directly but see here for a scratchbuilt gargant someone did - http://www.warseer.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=40284&d=1212517086

Cheers for that mate. I've had a think and come up with some ideas. The plates are a good idea...I felt like I may have been evading my issues regarding the front of the tin cans to be fair...they are still really Killa Kan and dread like. This should get me going though.

Cheers for the constructive criticism!

Hey guys,

Sorry for the quiet...its deafening!

I decided, what with the beautiful weather and all, that I'd do some painting. Wanted to do these excellent miniatures from TMG since I took them out of their packaging, they are shaping up to be quite nice Black Guardians :)

This was a test for this colour scheme done with Citadel washes (and some bone highlights) and I am quite happy with the result but not so happy with how long it took, about 4 hours.

Comments and Suggestions always welcome!

For anyone who paints miniatures on sprues;

How do you base your minis after they've been painted?
