After two years of failing to keep up a ToEG schedule, I'm just going to do a general painting/conversion log from now on... This thread will follow on from The Nurgley Appendages and The Dribbly Gribblies here's about half of the painted stuff so far. Included at the back are my new blast markers - made by wrapping orange tissue paper round some cut-down nails - as almost everything is magnetised for transport the blast markers then stay in place as you move the models. The Daemon Incursion and NetEA DG lists have prompted me to dig out yet more daemons and to do some Chaos Spawn using 28mm Nurglings being herded by Epic Beastmen. I also did some Warmachine-style cards for the War Engines. A bit more detail (and larger photos) on the blog: http://wargamingtrader.com/death-guard-2015 |

Ta and ta! Although they're not as day-glo in person... The next step - building up the level of the bases using Plasticine, ready to add ground texture using Vallejo Sandy Paste. Close-ups of each of the Chaos Spawn plus handlers, I'll be adding some chains or other leads. Ideally I'd sculpt collars on to them as well but will probably be too lazy... Bad spawn, bad, barfing before you got in range of the enemy! This guy is likely to end up as a Daemon Prince as Mortarion is a bit big and I'd like to use Mortarion as a Greater Daemon. I'm thinking a bigger base with a Sorcerer and a standard bearer on the base - either a Marine or a converted Minotaur. Finally for now, I came across an old Warhammer Beast of Nurgle with no feet or tentacles and am thinking it could be useful in some way. I've got a bunch of plastic tentacles from a DE Talos and with 2-3 Titan weapons mixed in it might do as a Reaver equivalent. Having so many Warhound equivalents a couple of Battle Titans would get me in reach of fielding either an AMTL or Chaos Titan Legion force. |

Next up, some Ilyad Chaos Goblins, bought in that brief period after Ilyad went under and their models got as rare as rocking horse poop. Scale-wise they're a bit awkward as they're slightly small to be Warhound-equivalents but a bit big to be Defilers. Design-wise I'm planning to carve off the faces and give them Cthulhu-esque tentacle-heads and add guns where the arms would be, or follow the precedent of the Defiler in the photos and use the claw arms but give them gun heads, possibly using the 40k scale gun barrel tips that I used on the Contagion Engines. However this guy is definitely bulky enough to look OK next to my existing Plaguehounds. |

Wow those Ilyad goblins are wonderful. I was not aware of them prior to this. Shame they are not around anymore. |

Everything Ilyad did was superb, but they went under nearly a decade ago, lots of rumours about them not having paid the sculptors etc. I'm a bit surprised nobody ever got hold of the reproduction rights though. |

More progress. The first goblin head has been shaved off and temporarily replaced with a Ymgarl Genestealer head. The plan is to use Milliput or plastic putty to fill in the gap so that there's no neck. It's very obviously a Genestealer head but it should do. The weapons test I'm not so sure about. Partly they're very bulky and partly they're too mechanical compared to the body. I might fall back on the original idea of having the Catachan 'flowerheads' on the ends of tentacles - which would also mean that the blade-legs are less obscured. While digging through some assorted leftover models making job lots for eBay I found some teeny-tiny chain wrapped round a shield boss, the exact thing I'd already been looking for for the Chaos Spawn! Lastly for tonight, a very quick Chaos Vindicator conversion using a standard plastic Rhino, yet another Chaos Vehicle gun bit and an RTB01 chainsaw bayonet. I've always loved Vindicators in old versions of Epic and the Death Guard 0.2 list lets me take them in formations again. Especially nice as I might try to do a big siege game later in the year where they'd get some of the old rules for property destruction. |

Those Chaos vehicle heads are a blessing! I used them for my Space Wolf melta guns in 40k and then used the spare nozzles for combi-meltas! |

Yes, those gun 'heads' are invaluable! Another three Vindicators done. I'd planned to use buzzsaw fronts for all four, but the previous owner of the Rhinos had made a hash of cutting them from the sprue and two had had the headlights almost totally cut off - so instead I went for spikes on those ones instead. Which makes them look a bit stupid on the bases. All the new stuff textured. A big choke chain added to the Minotaur and 'Nurgling Spawn'. All that's left to do before they get undercoated is add fine chain to the 'Nurgling Spawn' that has two Beastman handlers. |
