as another newbie to this scale i'd echo rastamann's comments, your colour choices will look great as a completed army but maybe a brighter highlight (or brighter base and darken shadows whatever you prefer to do) best of luck mate |

Thanks for the comments guys! Will try to do lighter highlights, primarily on the purpur areas, the black weapons has a highlights of 50/50 black and white , so I think It minut look weird with even lighter highlights, am i completely off here? As everyday life doesnt give anywhere near as much time for painting as id like, i have just about finished one rhino, that freehand arrow took forever, but as far as i'm concerned its fine at least, really hand to get it symetrical though. And i've gotten the first layers onto My whole first tactical detachement as can be sen in the background of one pic, so not an entirely wasted week ![]()

Your painting is pretty good actually. I think you might be having a problem painting your yellow over purple or some other dark area, but that isn't really about skill, it's just about basecoating. Well done. |

It won't look weird - go for it! Everyone has their own style and yours might use only faint highlights, but some people go all the way up to pure white. You don't have to go that far. |

Will try that Thanks, in the meantime I have gotten the whole tactical up to the same standard, as seen in this pic. I use a base later of averland sunset followed by flash gitz yellow for these areas, and I think its working allright. But could probably be better. Tonight I will start on the supreme commander and try highlighting some more, and maybe basing them. I tend to not base my models and intead go for painting more instead, but I'll really try this time around to finish one detachement at a time. Promise ![]() Any Good basing tips out there? I dont think My usual approach of gravel and stativ Grass work on this scale, inleds one want a jungel themed High grass. Sorry for my weird spelling and sometimes strange words by the way.. Swedish autocorrect isnt really optimal, certainly not together with My own misspelling and lack of proofreading ![]()

They look really good. I think the army will look great once it is all done and the scheme will be striking. |

At this scale, exaggerated edge highlights are king! I think they look good now, if you hit all the edges with a bright pastel purple colour they would really pop, the rich purple is great but runs the risk of looking dark and muddy at tabletop distance Basing wise, textured paint is your friend there, vallejo sandy paste or even gw colours, I would recomment going for a neutral tone that helps the minis stand out, avoid brown if possible, I would suggest a pale grey or bright desert scheme, verdant grass colour works too |

Yellow orange is across the color wheel from purple so a sandy desert base would be great to make them pop. Like Kyuss says, extreme edge highlights are also your friend. Great stuff! |

Thabks guys, really nice friendly crowd on these boards. Will try some textured paints then, so far all i got is gw blackfire earth, and that one is brown, and kinda hard to use, only tried it out once, but i found it hard to get the sand pf whatever is in it onto the brush. But it should suffice if drybrushed with some bleached bone after applying to get a nice colour for them to stand on at least. Ill post some pics later if it works out. |

I've tried following the advices coming in, but still a little conservative on the highlights. These are done with a mix of 50/50 genestealer purple and emperors children (puple/pink). to me they look good for a tabletop standard so thinking I will lave them as is for now, and complete the army to this standard before going over them again with maybe a 25/75 puple/pink highlight. Really liking the desert bases, thanks kyuss and jimmy!
