I will be very honest here that Im not sure this project will go anywhere for long as I am trying something I have never really looked at before.... 3D modelling.

Wanting to get back into Epic and having seen rules for units in the Horus Heresy I couldnt really resist. But where to get the tanks?! Well I would have normally tried to model things in real life but on a 6mm scale I just dont think thats possible (at least with my level of ability). I cant see how to make things symmetrical or to get the angles correct. I just know I would make mistakes and it would just get very frustrating.

So my only solution.... Trying to create them in 3D and print them. Then I can cast however many I need from that original. Now as I say, I h\vent done this before and it looks pretty challenging. So there is a good chance that this wont even get printed (I'll probably bugger it up so for some reason the printer wont accept it. But here goes.

So..... "can you guess what it is yet"?

Cool stuff. Just watch out for the evil empire goons.

Hi!

3d rendering and printing makes so many things possible.

Go for it!

Thanks for the comments guys.

Not much of an update but got a bit more done. Tracks were a pain!

Ahh.... Bugger.

Its all a learning curve but this one kicked me a bit in the arse. Just realised I have done something wrong somewhere which has resulted in this:

Learning points here:
1. I need to have more than one save file so I can go back to earlier stages (This is a BIG one).
2. I need to find a tool that allows me to join things together correctly without causing these kinds of screw ups.

If anyone knows a quick fix for this Id really appreciate it. Having spent an hour trying I only ever made it worse. There seems to be errors everywhere with lots of odd lines having been made (from where the tracks were joined).

Might be wrong (and I'm assuming you're working in Sketchup here) but that looks like a classic case of not enough grouping/componentizing...(?)

Yeah, thats exactly it from what I have read. Also I used the intersect tool when I should have used something called "outer shell"? Well I hope its just that. I can do that right next time!

OK, so with the learning curve of sketchup kicking my arse Ive moved onto something else (I could restart the Sicaran now I know what Ive done wrong but being annoyed at my own mistakes I thought it was best to start on something else and then go back to it later.

So moving on..... Once again, can you guess what it is yet (might be a bit harder this time)
