I had a quick look and couldn't find a comprehensive discussion / list of various 6mm-scale base manufacturers for our beloved Epic. If you know of any, then please forgive this over-enthusiastic Doomkitten and point her in the right direction!

So. I was struck by a wild idea to base up each of my armies on differently shaped bases and it got me thinking about the various 6mm-scale bases available and figured that I must know only a fraction of the total available out there. From the top of my head, there's Fenris Games bases, Flames of War bases, the Troublemaker Games rounds and the Steel Crown/Exodus Wars strip bases. Are there any favorites of yours I've missed or that you really want to shout out to?

And are there any requests for any new shapes? :-)

Fenris can make pretty much anything you can think up; kidney shapes and arcs and youNameIt - as long as you can clearly define or draw what the laser needs to burn, they can do it.

I'm still toying with an old Tyranids-on-kidney-shaped-bases idea =P

Very friendly service too.

(Edit) Or maybe Ben can help (o:

I wasn't aware that they would do custom stuff - I take it that's a "hey can you..." email thing?
I'm thinking squats on 30mm dia. octagonal bases would be pretty much amazing.

For what it's worth, I was planning on 'Guard on standard strips, Orks on rounds, Marines on larger, diorama (small FoW) bases then Squats on some random Hex or possibly octagonal bases. Having options for the inevitable Eldar, Necron and Chaos armies couldn't hurt, too... Yes, I really can't settle on just one project at a time.

I use and generally recommend Fenris Games laser cut 1.5mm ply bases.

They don't seem to be the best at communication sometimes though (I've sent them several emails over the last year try to get a quote for some custom bases and never had a reply).

That's what I've done (o:
Couple years ago now though; they might have become uncomfortably busy..

My chaos are on octagons to fit the chaos star (o:
And no, you're not the only one who wants one of everything ...

I've ordered from Litko for most of armies (they're in the US, so cheaper shipping for you):

I use the .8mm 20x40mms and drill out the holes with a 1/4" drill bit myself (I tape a stack of 10ish together). I'm sure they could cut it for you custom though. The bottoms are just 20mil adhesive magnets. For my heavyier stuff (ie Warmaster) I use 30mil.

Beyond those, I've also used FoW small bases and Evergreen sidewalk/tile sheets cut to size.

How do I miss these things when I'm looking at websites? It might even be possible to drill the holes myself and add metal panels to the base for magnetised storage. Damn it, now I have ideas for MORE projects. :(

I looked at Litko ages ago for some 15mm projects, I have no idea why I didn't think of them for epic. Thank you!

I've eventually had to pass on them for that very reason. After numerous attempts over the years to get quotes and order fulfilled I've had to just give up. =/

There is a guy on e-bay who makes epic bases almost exactly like the ones GW used to make.

The only difference I can see is that there is a very small "lip" around the holes where you insert the infantry bases. Add a little sand or flock (which you are likely doing anyway) and you'll never notice it.

Ahh, I've seen those ones before - aren't these the Steel Crown 40x10mm bases?

I can't say. I don't know anything about those bases beyond the fact that I see them pop up on e-bay all the time.

I haven't had to use any third party bases yet. My supply is dwindling, though, and I've been looking at that e-bay add. By this time next year….

Speaking of bases... a friend sold me his chaos marines which have a 25mm metal washers as bases... is this a legitimate base or do i need to scrape them off and start over?

Post subject:  Re: Bases

I'm pretty sure 25mm diameter washers fit inside the E:A basing guidelines. :)
