Post subject:  9th Necromundan Death Blades

Back in the day I used to play Rogue Trader IG painted in the death blades scheme (The grey and black one that was on the front of the box) which can be seen here.
Image

I'm currently repainting my 40k models, and at the same time I'm also painting up the full F company in epic scale. The overall strategy of collecting this army is to represent the type of army that was present in the Rogue Trader Compendium, which was my first 40k army. This was a company made up of multiple platoons, including abhumans, assault guardsmen and supported by things like thudd guns and mole mortars. Also the commentary on the image in the compendium specifically mentions the Fire Wasps titan legion (Known as Legio Ignatum these days) so I would love to include an oldschool titan in fire wasps colours if I can get my hands on one).

These epic scale guys might get used from time to time, but I haven't played any epic for a long time. This project is more a labour of love.

Eventually the army will be composed of the following units.

1st (Gold) Platoon.
Commander, and twelve bases of veteran infantry.
Four sentinels.

2nd (Red) Platoon.
Commander and twelve bases of infantry.
Four sentinels.

3rd (Green) Platoon.
Commander and seven bases of assault infantry.
Four grav attack vehicles (these can count as Valkyries).
Four sentinels.

4th (Blue) Platoon.
Four support stands.
Five thudd guns.
Ten Mole Mortars.
Four Sentinels.

5th (Orange) Platoon.
Twelve rough riders stands.

6th (Black) Abhuman Platoon.
Command Stand.
Nineteen beastmen stands (count as infantry).
Four ratling stands.
Four ogryn stands.

Company Auxilia.
Fourteen whiteshield stands.

Imperial Navy Support.
Six thunderbolts.
Two marauders.

Legio Titanicus.
At least one titan (Firewasps Legio). Probably a warlord.

And because they are so cool...
Superheavy Company.
Three Shadowswords.
(These guys aren't in the artwork but I want three shadowswords. I've always liked them so want them included, so I'm choosing to break my own rules).

This should to a pretty reasonable job of representing the death blades as depicted in the Blanche artwork above.

I still need to source:
three shadowswords
at least one titan (preferably an older version to match all the other older models).
If anyone has any tips, models on a shelf they want to donate (for the appropriate level of compensation of course!) or contacts please let me know!

So far I have assembled about half of the models and painted Red Platoon.
Here are a couple of pictures showing what I've been up to.
Image
Note the red helmet stripes. Each platoon will have the appropriate coloured stripe.

Image
I've used artillery models to represent officers and sergeants.

Image
Every second base has a lascannon as well as a sergeant which works out to be one per ten men.

So that's where I'm up to with these guys. Still a bit to go...

Ah those were the days i had a few boxes of those guards and i still have those figures stashed away as i don't seem to want to part with them even thouth i don't play 40K anymore.

I did my original epic plastic guard in the same scheme as on the box shown above mostly an infantry force i'll dig them out some time amd post some pics in my thread.

Keep up the good work. :)

Cheers chaps.
I have painted a fair bit more of this army now, so will update with some painted pics soon.
But look what arrived in the mail last week, fresh from Mars (well Bristol actually).

Fire Wasps Reaver Goth.

Ready to be painted up in a suitably red and hazard-stripe scheme.

All weapons and the base are magnetised. I've put kill banners on the turbo lasers so I can track engine kills. I'll track how many times it gets blown up on the central banner. Probably with purity seals or something. If the rocket launcher ever manages to kill an engine I'll track that there too.

Thanks Legion. I am in two minds about shadowswords for this army now, but if I do end up getting some those guys will definitely be on the short list.

I have taken some pics of blue platoon. These guys provide support for the infantry platoons that make up the bulk of the army.

Image

They are composed of four main components.

Mole mortars.

Image

Thudd Guns.

Support squad.
Image

I only have four of these unfortunately. In net epic I will need 5. I might see if I can improvise another one with whatever bits I have left over.

Sentinels.
Image

Image
I probably need to add two more to this squad as well.

So that's that. Another platoon dusted.

love love LOVE your reaver with the banners!!!

those poles are such a simple and effective modification, consider that idea stolen and used with abandon across my own titan legion!

This.

Brings back happy memories. I had a few boxes worth of these too. Great times. Love your army, and the titan banners look cool too.

Hi!

I love all those old school images. It's what sold the universe to me back in the day. :)

Those banner rails are great. Much better idea than just gluing to the barrels (guess they have heat resistant cloth in the grim darkness of the far future ;) ) is it a paperclip or similar? Might have to nick the idea when I get round to the legion.

Army is coming together nicely.

You mean the lascannon troopers? I might have one in the bottom of the guard bits tray, possibly an older style guardsman or two, too. You're welcome to them for postage if it'll help.
