Thanks guys! I appreciate it. What do people think a out the edge highlights? Should I go for a darker tone?

Woa!!!
Really good scratch job on your Harridan!
I like the gargoyle on it.
The scenaristic base is a good idea, poor lone marines...
Will you paint the sand or not?

Thanks! Hmm I wasn't planning on painting it but if there's a good reason I'm open to being convinced otherwise.

Disclaimer: I'm just learning 6mm painting myself...
I don't think the tone of the highlights is the issue. I think if you were willing to add a middle step where you lightly drybrush a colour that is 70% highlight colour 30% base colour then it would still be stark the way it should be at 6mm, without it looking too much. I guess it might be because it is so close in, but you can tell there there is edge highlighting, and the rest of the model is flat colours, no highlights.

Been awhile since I had a post. Finally finished my first swarms for my Tyranid army, two small swarms of biovores for ten bases total! And now, cue the photos...

Always neat seeing the old metals get a new lick of paint.

I appreciate it SW. Some of those biovore sculpts are among my favorite from the old Tyranid line. Lots of accessible detail on them that can really add character.

Lovely work. And I love the Hex stands, where did you get them or did you make them?

Glad everyone is enjoying them! I was pretty happy with how they look and how the highlighted edges effected the appearance.

As for the bases, I saw another forum member do that a few years back and I loved the look it created. I dont remember the exact company I used, but a quick search for 20mm MDF hexagon bases brings up plenty of choices.

I agree. Nice force. I used hex for my chaos too. Fenrisgames is what I used.

Something appropriate about using hexagonal bases for a pseudo insectoid hive race ;-)
