I'm just putting together a previously unopened pair of eldar revenants (1995!! Hoo hoo!) but I'm noticing the surface of the metal has discoloured - presumably oxidised - to a golden yellow colour on some of the components. Has anyone else come across this ? Will it hold undercoat ok ? Will it react ? It scratches off fairly easy (with a blade/file) and is only microns thick, but I'd rather not scratch up the nice smooth faces if not required...

It happens all the time to high lead based figures, just give it a quick drop in some Dettol (As you would if paint stripping) and it'll be just fine. Count yourself lucky it isn't something worse like Lead Rot.

Had some old chaos metals go like that, golden/bronzed hue to them, painted them fine without cleaning.

Cheers chaps.

@chico Yes, my heart sank when I opened the box (let's say it was one of my most extravagant eBay purchases as it also came from the USA ) but no actual damage to the sculpt it seems...

Yes ... just paint over it ... shouldn't be a problem ... Something I do and it may be unwarranted, I always base coat metal with enamel ... oil based not acrylic water based. Of course generally I used water based paints for everything ... Also most if not all spray paint is enamel anyway ...

Same experience - also with Eldar incidentally, must be something in the Webway.
Just ignored it and painted over.
