Finally exhausted by scouring the net for an Orkeosaurus proxy (there were a few near things but nothing that I felt was quite close enough), I've decided to do it the Blue Peter way and cobble together something myself. Hopefully it will save me a fortune rather than trying to pick these up on ebay.

On the encouragement of someone on my fb page, I had a look around the shops and came across toys called "Dragons" in the pound shop. I've opted to use these as the base for my Orkeosauri. They are far from beautiful...

Rather handily the wings (which don't look big enough to carry this tubby b*stard of a thing) slip off.

Here's how it scales up next to other Ork units. I'm hoping this is about right...

That works for me. Nice size too. I think PAR used D&D miniature lizards or something for his version, but these dragons will look ace i think.

Mrs Rex brought a box of these for me at Christmas, I love how on the box says "realistic replicas" !!!

I'l be using mine for my Goblins though, I needed some realistic looking monsters for them to fight!

I was lucky enough that I was given an orkeosaurus a couple of years ago. Its probably my favorite GW model of all time, its just as shame that I wont have enough of them, or of boars, to make a complete feral army.

I did consider having it drop in to a bucket of resin, but then that would be very clumsy of me...!

I think these will work out fine for you. Plenty of green stuff to hide the gaps, and some plasticard battlements and it will be awesome!

Cheers Rex! It is a matter of deep regret that I was away from the hobby when the Orkeosaurus was on general sale.

I don't have any greenstuff, but I do have a fair old whack of modelling clay which I'm hoping will do the trick.

I've now glued mdf stands (painted silver) to the dragons. These are cheap and cheerful stands that I use for basing things like bikes.

And all of this in the middle of an ebay frenzy!!!

Cool idea, they look good!

I always planned on buying these and scratchbuilding platforms and crew. The old squiggoth models were furry and I planned to paint them up as on ice terrain bases where the mammoth like fur would be sensible in the cold.

You could really do with some plasticard to do the platforms properly though, modelling putty isn't going to straight or angular enough. Get some textured plasticard too if you can, you can get some that looks like corrugated metal, roofing tiles, ect. Squires in the UK have a wide range of plain and textured stuff - have a look here: http://www.squirestools.com/12-19a.pdf

Nice ideas chaps! Just bear with me though, I have ideas how to make these kind of acceptable I guess with this junk that I have lying around...

I'm dispensing with the metal plating on the sides, going for something more akin to the mumakil from LOTR. Packed 2 dragons now, pressing on with the 3rd... Photos later!

The toys' joints have been packed with modelling clay. I used my fingernails to create the "texture" of the creature's skin.

I wanted to see how the modelling clay looked on the mini once it had some paint to disguise the joins. Because I'm so tired I didn't have time to let the paint dry...

Apart from it looking like an unflushable turd (loads more painting to be done obviously!), I'm pretty satisfied with the result.

I think Jeff Goldblum once said "life finds a way". You're talking out of your arse Jeff, it's "life gets in the way". Certainly, that's my experience and the reason there's been radio silence on this for a few days.

Anyway, getting back to the matter at hand...

After much deliberation I painted the Orkeosauri with a base green. This may sound obvious to everyone but in fact I did think for a while of painting them all brown. The boars that the Boarboyz ride are brown, the Squiggoths are brown, why isn't the Orkeosaurus?

At this stage I thought it looked quite comical!

So I decided to harden his image up. I dug out my old unused Goblin sprues for WHFR and spotted this really handy "wicked blade" (as Tolkein might say). Note the quivers also, I'll come back to them later.
