I've decided to begin a 6mm fantasy force I'm currently planning to write my own rule set but I decided to make sure I actually do that I needed to invest in some models. I decided to start with Humans and picked up the Yorkist Starter set from Baccus. This gives me a host of Billmen and Longbowmen with Pike and Musket support as well as some Knights. I've got the lot sprayed and I'm planning to base after painting on 25mm square bases as I have lots of these already and square bases work best for formations. I did however especially convert up my general the mighty Baron Tourville and his mighty Griffon Surestrike.

It's based on a Yorkist Commander and a Rapier Griffon. It's not an easy conversion as the wings aren't cast to allow a rider. The current plan is to paint these up and an opponent army almost certainly Microworld Games either Lizardmen or Undead. To this army I'm planning to add some Dismounted Men-at-Arms and more Knights as well as an army set of ECW forces in similar colours.

Got the first foot painted as 6mm paints quickly and I've got a nice simple scheme.

Basic Brown and Midnight blue details. Nice low fantasy fairly neutral scheme. New Havens a fairly free city and decidedly Benevolent even so basic infantry shouldn't be too lavish. (The setting splits Gods and Magic into three courts Benevolent, Malevolent and Ambivalent, Magic is usually further subdivided into the Elements Earth, Air, Fire, Water, Life, Death, Order and Chaos).

Thanks Apocolocyntosis. I'm currently playing with ideas for magic and background. This is my current idea for how New Haven came to be.

Not every town has been devastated by the Cataclysm. New Haven is one of the great new metropolises of the world originally the Imperial Provincial Seat of Lysistra during the upheaval it gradually became after the sea settled down a mighty coastal port. However the Governor Sylistria became enamoured with the idea of re-establishing the true divine order of the Empire. This meant according to him the enslavement of all none elves. The local lords banded together and rebelled. As they outnumbered the Elves of Sylistra’s faction by a great degree and with his arrogance he’d offended all his surviving allies they easily drove him back to the citadel. Then with support from an Elven mage Fryana sickened by his treatment of prisoners and a Dwarven contingent after he’d offended their delegates they took the citadel the slaughter was great. After his departure one of the local human lords was declared King although with the involvement of the other civilised races with their rise the Haven dynasty is one of the few which still embrace those of other species. The trade routes bring wealth and its status as a port gives it great military power. However New Haven as a Bastion of civilisation often attracts the ire of evil forces and ambitious enemies who desire its wealth.

New Haven is a prosperous city with a thriving hinterland one of the few surviving. It's armies are proper medieaevel force well trained citizen soldiers rather than forcibly impressed militia. Currently I see this force composed of
Hero's (1 on Griffon 1 mounted I'd like some appropriate mage models as well)
Halberdiers (Plenty of these)
Bowmen (Too many to be honest)
Pikemen (Not enough at least another packs worth)
Man Forged Muskets (Less powerful and quick to fire but far cheaper than Dwarf Forged Muskets represented by either ECW models or bronze guns)
Knights (Like a few more to be honest)

I'd really like to add Artillery, Crossbows and Dismounted Men-at-Arms for variety. This army I want to have a very low fantasy feel to them which I've got. I'm also planning other human factions in the setting. Men of the West more high fantasy and closely linked to the elves possibly Greco-Roman Byzantium based. Men of the East. Dwarf linked Guns gunpowder and kilts (ECW Scots from Bacchus). Men of the South Araby Africa and Carthage inspired. Men of the North Barbarian clansmen Celto-Germans. As well as that the Ash Lords are planned. A culture driven to human sacrifice to the God-Volcanos of Tiryashok's Children by the Cataclysm who believe only that sacrifice will prevent a recurrence of the disaster. These will be based upon the Dark Alliance models

Got the Pikemen finished. Only 4 bases in the Yorkist set and I really want more. The banner was made in Paint and shrunk down in Word. The symbol is mean't to be a Rising Sun above the sea symbolising the New Dawn after the Cataclysm.

Looking forward to seeing the undead in 6mm- I intend to make my undead army a large project for next year, to coincide with a 6mm witch hunter army as well. Have you gone for microworld undead?

I sae your other post about terrain- I have started making some cardstock buildings as well.

http://www.brumbaer.de/Wm/Build/ I used these and printed at 66% and they came out really nice. I have only made up the smaller huts so far but they look great and they are free.

http://www.davesgames.net/catalog-free-models.htm have a couple of free DLs, and they are brilliant. You can change the scheme of the buildings on some of them before you print so you can make several of the same building but each one has a more individual look. Some of them have some more complicated parts- fiddly to make at 66% scale but they look great when made.
I fully intend to buy some of the building packs later this year, as I was that impressed with the quailty of the free buildings.

I have also placed an order with leven miniatures for a viking settlement and Saxon roundhouses- I ordered very late Monday night and they had got back to me with in half an hour! Very impressive! Once they arrive I intend to get some photos up on here as I think they will work brilliantly for 6mm fantasy.

I hope the links might be good for you.
Keep up the good work- I am loving what you have done so far!

I did go with the Microworld Undead lovely models really impressed with the size of the dragon especially and I'm looking forward to painting them up. For pure 6mm stuff the Roman Seas building sets are well worth a look. I'm going for a Classical theme for the fallen Elven kingdom of Lyonesse and they fit nicely with that. I also like the fact that they don't look normal and have a slightly foreign look which fits fantasy well although thanks for the tips. Out of interest what ruleset do you use currently I'm writing up some homebrew rules to amuse myself? Also what models are you planning for the Witchhunters? Bacchus or Irregular?

Another recommendation for paper saving the 4x4 option on the multiple pages button in PDF reader when going to print looks appropriately approximately 6mm scale.

Currently making up lots of cardstock buildings as its cheap clean entertainment when I'm out of work. The medieavel buildings are Fat Dragon Games Dragonshire buildings and rescaleing them is tricky as they are made out of several component sheets to give flexibility which means you have to glue several pieces together to get the kit (4 for each basic one story net. It's a pain but worth it as it'll give me a large varied city. However I can't recommend buying the set for 6mm which I can with Roman Seas. I'd got it for Mordheim and Confrontation ages ago. Rescaling was simply done by the print 4x4 pages option in PDF reader as it looks right and when it come to it as far as I'm concerned if it looks right it is right.

I think we will be mostly using Mantics KoW rules to start out with- from what Ive read of them, they play out well both in regular small games, and stand up to huge all day mega battle games at very high points. Though I also have Mayhem rules from bombshell games- which is a great set of rules, but as they run on activations/command points, they don't seem to suit the larger games as you wont be able to move most of your units. Failing both of them, I have collected up a lot of warmaster resources and army lists to try out. Which ever lets us roll the most amount of dice and get some serious amounts of miniatures down on the table!

I intend to use mostly baccus for my which hunters, a lot of the WotR minis are fantastic and I wanted an excuse to own and paint some- but with out needing the historical aspects of them!
But I will have to rely on irregular for several items- especially war dogs/handlers as not one seems to have 6mm dogs.

Heres the first bunch of Undead done good news on the job front means I'm of to Warwickshire for a couple of weeks and I'm planning a trip down to Castle Donnington for the Derby World Wargames show. with Bacchus and Irregular down there it should be good.

The bright green is meant to represent a horrible sickly glow.

These'll be of interest to you as well they are the Rapier miniatures Cyclops, Minotaurs and Ettin sadly monopose in a pack but Rapiers got a great selection of gribblies for this kind of project. Indeed the Chimeras and Gryphons have already been transferred to this project.
