Howdy folks, These are my first attempts at scratch-building and converting for Epic, and the Monolith is my first attempt at fully sculpting something from scratch, but constructive criticism is always welcome! Now, I KNOW that I need to do some fine sanding to get everything nice and smooth and to get sharp corners, but I'm really pleased with how things have turned out so far. First up is the Monolith, with a 20mm base as a starting point. Yeah, I could have done a 25mm base, but I was actually short on those, and convinced that the extra layers would make it look bigger. ![]() With Land Raider and Terminators for comparison: [img]http://img231.imageshack.us/img231....MG] With Terminators for comparison: [img=http://img207.imageshack.us/img207....th.jpg] |

Now that I've posted the images, my wife is like, "Isn't that a little small compared to the other guys?" and given me a complex ![]() I'm hoping that once the fins on the side and back get added, as well as the crystal on top, and a base and a flying stand, it will stand up significantly taller than it does now. *crosses fingers* Here are my other works in progress: Pylon: ![]() Obelisk top and bottom: ![]() Obelisk, Pylon and Monolith: [img]http://img205.imageshack.us/img205....MG] Thanks for looking, all comments are welcome! |

I think the Monolith is alright. Your base is good but you need to make it a little taller I think. The pylon looks good... proportions are right, may need to be biger though. I am trying to think of bits to start from for a larger pylon. A little bigger on both I think would work well. Otherwise good work. |

I think they look good for your first try. Better then I could do for sure. ![]() dafrca |

Nice work! Is the monolith all putty, bar the base? Especially like the pylon. A couple of months ago I was thinking of a Necron force, and racking my brains about what I could use for it. |

Wow, very nice! ![]() This is impressive, especially if it's your first try. Just one thing: the Monolith looks great, but should probably be a bit taller. How long did it take to sculpt these, by the way? |

Thanks for the replies everyone! Vermis: Yup, the Monolith is all putty, except for the base. I searched on the forums all the way back to the beginning, and someone mentioned using the Land Raider/Rhino top hatch ring as a start for the Pylon, and if you shave off the bottom of each piece, they work great. Hojyn: Thanks! Do you think the width of the monolith is at least correct? If it is, I may be able to rip off the top four corners, extend the Monolith's height by a few millimeters, and put the corners back on. I can always start a new Monolith on a 25mm base, but if I can save this one, all the better. It's taken me the better part of four Hitchcock movies, one Woody Allen movie, and about four episodes of Ham on the Street to make. Seriously though, it's taken about 3 weeks, very off and on. I did the core of the Monolith in one evening, and then added one corner layer per evening, then the second corner layer one per evening, then the top four corners, then the portal and door. It's been really slow because I've had to let each new layer cure before I can start the next one, because I kept smooshing the uncured sections if I tried to rush it. I've done MINOR greenstuffing in the past, and the Monolith was a really easy starting point for trying out full-scale sculpting since it has so many nice straight lines and block shapes. The Obelisk is kind of boring right now, I need to do some more detail work and sanding on it to make it pop. I THINK it'll look better once it's painted and has a crystal on it, but the Obelisks as they're drawn in the Necron list are just kind of bland. |

On your pictures, it looks about as wide as a Land Raider, which is quite good in my opinion. Just a bit taller and it should be perfect. ? ![]() I searched on the forums all the way back to the beginning, and someone mentioned using the Land Raider/Rhino top hatch ring as a start for the Pylon |

Woo, an update! Unfortunately, it's not much, but I've been busy with some other projects. These pictures are mainly to correct some issues people had with some of the vehicles, namely the monolith. I added a layer of GS to the base of the monolith to make it taller, and then raised the monolith's height by a few millimeters as well. It wasn't much work, but I think it greatly improves the monolith. I've also done work on the back of the monolith, but the camera battery died... I hope to get some more pictures later. I also haven't done more work on the figs, because I'm hoping to get a resin/silicone sample kit, and make casts of my vehicles, and then add the details to them afterwards. At the rate I'm moving at, that might be a while ![]() Without further ado, the pics! New! ![]() Old! ![]() Comparison with Land Raider and Rhino ![]() Comparison with Obelisk and Pylon ![]() Obelisk, with new trim and border, plus crystal ![]() Pylon, with new tips and coils ![]() And finally, a test Chaos Android! It's supposed to be metallic red, but after my highlights, it just kind of looks gloppy red. I have some others, so I may do another test fig. ![]() |

I Like the changes. It does look better with the added height. As for the Red, well I can not say how it looks in real life, but I am not to fond of it in the picture. dafrca |

I'm not real thrilled with it either - I was trying for something other than boltgun or silver, and... yeah. Not real happy with it. I can't put my finger what's wrong with the color though. Is the paint too thick? Is the red too dark? Heck if I know ![]() |
