Post subject: | Removing models from bases |
Got a job lot of infantry recently (some of which I don't need but will post about in the trade section) anyway a few of the bases have individual models on them that are broken. Ideally I would like to replace these. Any tips? My original plan was to just cut the broken model off at the base and glue the replacement on top but frankly it looks mince. |

Probably worth a try to use some Jet Desolv. I use it to eat away glue on tons of stuff (turrets, bases, etc). Might as well try some infantry! http://www.jetglues.com/index.shtml |

You could try drilling a small hole into the bottom of the base just deep enough to reach the model. Then take a post and try to push the model out. That will wok if it isn't glued very well. |

Hmm would desolv not damage the model? Will try though. |

That will wok if it isn't glued very well. That works ... and I even have cut the bases up and sanded down the model to its base ... |

@ legion 4, you are a wealth of information. I am tipping my hat at you right now. When you say cut and sand is that the same as my first suggestion? |

Method is you cut the whole base with 5 figures or holes ... not the figure base ... But that means you have to have another 5 fig base ... But your first method might be easier and quicker ... |

I would suggest cutting the broken model bits off the base and then use a power drill with a 1/4 inch bit to drill out the circle portion. Done it a whole lot of times... |

That's basically what I did, drill into the underside, twirling and cutting with a craft knife to increase the size of the hole, then poke it through. If it's really strongly glued in you might have to carry on drilling right through the broken infantry model's base and then twirl, cut and scrape it all out from the topside with the knife. Alternatively, if you have a spare base it can be quicker to clip the old base up then clip and cut the black plastic off each undamaged infantry model's base circle |

Yes, I've done "the drill and poke the bottom" method ... it does work but on many occasions I had to cut up the big base and sand down the fig bases and mount on another big base ... as I said ... ![]() |
