Hi all, new thread dedicated to VSF models. Here's a small Aeronef miniature from Brigade which I really had fun with - an Anarchist Cutlass Spar, wearing the colours of the Malyasian pirate-king Sandokan. Over the top, but the huge flag and the orange-black hull were good fun to make Tutorial on flag-making offered on request

Interesting little bugger.
Can imagine it burning nicely as it falls from the sky after the fleet is done with him.

I was just thinking, based on scale, do you know how big a flag that would be?
Wow, talk about giving some poor taylor a fit.

Oh, and the flag (wel, not its size...) is exactly as described in the books. Historical VSF accuracy.... Oh, and I printed out a whole sheet of those flags, so if it falls burning from the sky... there's around 49 replacements

Quote (Justiniel @ 16 June 2006 (09:20)) | Looks great V Especially like the flag, so a pin and a printout...what else is going to be hidden in the tutorial Oh and poor tigger is missing a tooth, no wonder he's in a bad mood | Dang, someone DID notice! Well, if Sandokan were to get to the Aeronef period, he'd be an old man, so the Tiger of Malyasia could very well have a missing tooth.... As for the flag process - simple, and the only software you need is paint (with some help from word, possibly) - nothing exotic:
1 - select emblem to be used on flag - or select an image of an existing flag, and save image 2 - open image in Microsoft Paint 3 - reduce size to around 10% - although this depends on the original image used, of course! 4 - if a larger border is needed, open a new paint document, paste the image onto it, place it where needed and resize borders accordingly 5 - change or add any colours as needed - I usually use the paint bucket fill tool, as at this scale no minute detail could be seen (barring missing dentures!) 6 - save image 7 - flip image horizontally to get a mirror image of the original flag - this will be called flag B. 8 - (optional) - paste the flag onto a Word document, resize the image as required, and copy and paste it to make a sheet of flags. 9 - (optional) repeat step 8 for flag B; another option would be to paste both flags onto the same sheet 10 - cut out flags to size, and paste the two halves with UHU stick or equivalent (if you prefer folded flags, paste the two sides (flag and flag B) on the Word doc a suitable distance from each other, and cut them out as one single item. 11 - trim the now-doublesided flag neatly and paint white edges with a suitable colour. Add dirt, bullet holes, or wash to give a worn and dirty look if required. 12 - drill hole in vehicle for flagpole - a pin is excellent at 2-10mm scale! 13 - paint pin (usually too shiny for the job) 13 - glue flag to pin with the minimum amount of quick-drying glue - any excess would stain the flag! 14 - glue flagpole complete with flag to vehicle - a touch of matt varnish helps keep the flag intact for years (I hope!) cheers.

 | Oh I was not thinking about the Flag Burning as it falls from the sky, I was thinking about the ship. I mean if I am going to sick my fleet on the poor chap, I expect them to do more then just nick his flag.

Dear Pirate King Sandokan,
You are a bounder and a cad. A Fleet of Her Majesty's finest will soon be dispatched to wipe your and your scourge from the skies and return peace to the airways. In the meantime, let us here at the Admialtly say that you have quite a ripping Aeronef and you look quite spiffy with that oversized bunting.
Well done and we look forward to your untimely death,
Their Lorships of the Aerial Admiralty
