About two months ago I had been asked to put up a photo of my Imperial Guard army. I duly obliged, but was so horrified by what I was posting that I named the thread "Fisher Price - My First Imperial Guard Army".

Since then I've worked long and hard to get my army painted up as well as my padowan skills would allow. I'm fairly proud of the results but I know my limitations; the professionals on this forum can sleep soundly!

Anyway, this one goes out to everyone here who remembers Opal Fruits, Marathon bars, and the days when it was inconceivable that anyone other than Golden Wonder could dominate the crisp market.

Very old school !! I got a bunch of Old School IG Bns myself ... but no Beastmen ... they all went to Chaos !

Haha! I expect if I play Chaos I may nick them from the IG as well. I never understood why the Beastmen fought on the side of IG, but was always happy they did! Very handy for close combat - though Ogryn are my favourites!

When the Imperium re-conquered the galaxy they found many worlds populated by sub human degenerates. Some of these worlds were destroyed on principle as some of these populations were beyond the tolerances of the Imperium but in some, they found very loyal and very useful auxiliary troops.

The Beastmen were often the results of long term isolation, polluted gene pools, the results of failed DNA experiments and in other cases….the influence and/or exposure to Chaos. Often, Beastman culture held a variation of the imperial creed or were easily indoctrinated ( Maybe a throw back to their more human ancestry).
During the heresy Beastman units fought on both sides. Imperial Beastman units were often aware of their beast like qualities and sought to repent for this by proving themselves in battle to atone for their sins. Often, Imperial agencies turned a blind eye to the fact that Beastman culture boarded very closely with dedication to Khorne the blood god.

Whatever the case, they were used up by the Imperium in true imperial fashion and utilised as shock/assault troops. In later editions of the fluff, you only find them fighting for Chaos. But not in my armies. Its rouge trader era all the way for me.

I agree with Dogtrooper. Keep the beastmen with the IG.
Later fluff lacked imagination and simply changed what happened to the poor old beastmen and (shock horror) robots.
