Post subject:  The invite to terminate....

On 21st April I had the honor of hosting Vaaish who's in the UK for vacation at my humble hobby Den in Guildford. Elsmore, Apoc and Rug were to join us as 3 epic locals as well as 2 guys from the Guildford Games Club. Its here I publicly shame Matt (Rug) for being a numpty and double booking his day so he shall garner no further mention as he didn't show up.... :P

In such promised company, it seemed a shame not to get them to fling some paint.

Its a hell of a long time since I've tried any real detail in 6mm - not since I cut my eye open a couple of years ago in fact.

Thus a challenge was born.

1 Hour (or there abouts). 1 epic Terminator.

I then threw emails around a couple of others who I thought might be interested - a mix of the TacComs old guard and competition painters from other scales, not thinking I'd get much response. The deal was I sent out a pre-primed and based terminator and once painted, they send it back to me so we could photograph them together and directly compare them all.

The aim being to be able to directly compare, purely for interest and not for prizes, different peoples approach to the challenge.

With no prizes and having to send it back to me I didn't think people would be interested. I was wrong!

I was humbled by the responses from guys here and when Word of the challenge got to my friends at GW HQ, and out among the Golden Demon regulars too, it grew. Many who thought it sounded like a fun way to settle scores without spending hundreds of hours in the process! Long story short, over the past few weeks, I've sent out 52 terminators to be painted all over the world :o

Now, of course, some may not return, But I shall post in this thread my pics, both group and detail, of those that do.

Any comparison pics people would like to see, just ask and I shall provide them too :)

The first few from the day and others are in, so the camera is starting up :)

I have been surprised by the uptake in this, but if others are interested in getting involved, I shall be issuing more invites to termination as soon as I find more models, but you'll have to catch my eye with something cool on these forums first ;)

Ryan / MoK - 1 Hr 15.

What a great Idea. I love threads such as this on other forums- I have often wondered why there has never been a great mini swap/shared painting experience on Tact comm. They often show some of the best the community has to offer and can be a great incentive to grab new players and/or show off what can be done by the real fans of the games. Great threads I have seen in the past have often blown the rest of the painting areas away in terms of awesomeness- like the competitions and the christmas calendar of da warpath, the prisoner exchange on the death sqaud forums...

Good luck with this, I hope it turns out well. I guess there will be a lot of work going in to having to keep track of all of this and for that I commend you!

Cant wait to see how awesome they all turn out!

Looking forward to seeing the results! BTW my painting was two 30ish minute podcasts long, just over an hour.

Here's the first 7 submissions.

I dont have time to edit detail shots for now, so you can play guess the terminator - amongst them are Apoc's, Vaaish's. MoK's and my own... more soon!

Hint - Mok's somehow melted in the post.... really confused me!

Sorry I forgot to get involved in this... :(
It's been crazy around here (selling a car, planning a holiday, work, trying to paint stuff for me and others etc).

They look fantastic!
Really looking forward to seeing the rest.
Well done to all concerned :)

Melted? I don't understand!

Anyway, they all look great so far; looking forwards to seeing more, I think Vaiish's is in green, tuffskulls in yellow?

Didn't yours have a snowy base MoK??

Guys, this is a great idea and I'm really impressed by what's on show.

So Tuffskull, you've set the precedent now; what's the next collection gonna be?! :)

Cheers

It would have been interesting to have been painting alongside more people at the time. For example, working on mine while sitting next to Vaaish I could see that a reason I don't paint as well as Vaaish is that I just don't paint as well/like Vaaish does at all – in terms of painting as a physical/planned activity.

Also interesting to contrast the range of highlight harshness/softness across the set. As Elsemore said that ultramarine terminator looks beter photographed, where the lighting effect appears differently from how it seemed in person.
