Hi,

First off Ive been a lurker here for the best part of a year and want to start by saying this is a fantastic board and a great asset for the GW community!

Ive recently got back into Epic after a 10 year hiatus and am reconditioning an old Ultramarine army into Whitescars.  The models are stripped and rebased, however I cant decide the best way to paint them. The two options would seem to be:

1) Spray black then heavy drybrush white and pick out details or;
2) Spray white, touch up and pick out details.

Which would people reccomend?  Also does anyone know what the correct armour markings would be?  Im currently thinking of black shoulderpads and guns, with the rest left white, but I dont know if this would be appropriate.

Cheers!

Iain

Actually, depending on where you live, I'd recommend getting Armory's "Grey Primer" to work with for White Scars.

YEas Grey primer would be good. Alternatively use a white primer, wash with thinned down Shadow Grey, Drybrush spacewolves Grey (optional) and then drybrush white for the highlights.

from what i recall white scars don't really have black bits! white all over sergeants have red helmets....red bolters (or black i suppose!) and i reckon the badge would be just too damn small to paint on!

as for painting if you can get grey primer go for ti otherwise go black and then drybrush grey and then  white!

all this coming from a crimson fist commander...! :-)

Thanks for the advice guys, id never have thought of grey primer but that sounds a very good idea.

Out of interest does anyone have photos of epic scale Whitescars for inspiration?

I agree with the general sentiment.  Either white primer, wash, drybrush back up or medium shade primer and drybrush up.

I would add one option beyond the grey primer, though.  You can use GW's tan for a base coat.  I think that the earthy tone might go better with red and yellow trim than gray.
